This or That – Fresh Fruit or Frozen Fruit 🍓

Both are great nutritious options!

Fresh Fruit – Are often picked before they are fully ripped to be transported to the grocery stores. When in season, they’ll be flavorful, abundant, and less expensive.

Frozen Fruit – Are often picked at peak ripeness when they are most nutritious. Freezing helps retain the nutrient content. It can impact texture when thawed. However, retains natural texture better.

“A refreshing treat to beat the summer heat.”

Directions:
1) Place all ingredients in a blender container and blend until smooth.
2) Pour the mixture into a shallow plastic container and place in the freezer.
3) Stir every 15 minutes until the mixture reaches sherbet-like thickness. Serve immediately.

Harvest of the Month - Tomatillos! 💚

However, a great way to stay warm inside our homes during this rainy season is by doing at home exercises. 🧘🏻‍♀️

In addition, during the winter months we may experience less thirst. One great way to stay hydrated in the winter is by drinking warm healthy beverages like warm/hot water or tea! 🚰🍵🫖🔥❄️

CalFresh Healthy Living is a public health initiative at The Whole Child, designed to help reduce the prevalence of obesity among Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education (SNAP-Ed) eligible populations. Through statewide, regional and local partnerships, programs, and policy initiatives, we promote healthy eating, physical activity, and food security with an emphasis in communities with the greatest health disparities.

Currently, CalFresh Healthy Living is being implemented in agencies across Los Angeles. The program focuses on direct education in schools and community, as well as indirect education during health fairs.
