π Route 5/6 Team Shines in Memorial Walk Cleanup π
In 2023, we proudly partnered with FSS to launch a wing-wide initiative to clean up the memorial stones across the base. This effort was essential to honor and remember the lives of Airmen connected to McConnell. A heartfelt thank you to SSgt Youens and the 11 dedicated volunteers who made it possible!
"The Memorial Walk exists to commemorate the lives of those Airmen who have a service connection to McConnell and provides a physical monument for family members and the total force to reflect on the sacrifices made by the deceased service members who built the heritage of the Air Force."
Read more about the initiative: https://www.mcconnell.af.mil/News/Features/Display/Article/3552137/mcconnell-air-force-base-embarks-on-memorial-walk-restoration-initiative/
βI appreciate all your help last weekend cleaning the Memorial Walk. In all, we cleaned 128 stones, 2.5 hours ahead of schedule. The base community appreciates your hard work, which both improves the appearance of the base, and also supports the family members of those who passed while stationed here at McConnell. Your efforts ensure that we never forget their sacrifice and service.
Today, we pause to remember the brave military members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Their courage and dedication have given us the freedoms we enjoy every day.
To all who have served and are currently serving, thank you for your commitment and sacrifice. We deeply appreciate everything you do."
β SSgt Andrew Youens, Vice President, Route 5/6
π **Join Us at Wichita RiverCity STEM City!** π
June 2nd is the annual "STEM City" event at Wichita's Riverfest! Last year, a team of 11 DoD members from the Army and Air Force showcased how STEM concepts are used in the military to around 400 attendees. We had robots, radio equipment, a 3D-printed jet engine, AF recruiters, and a VR pilot simulator!
This year, we're looking for more volunteers. SSgt Williams has already secured the tables and chairsβnow he just needs you and your cool gadgets or activities! If you have any hands-on activities for middle school kids, that would be fantastic.
