Union Rescue Mission of Wichita
We represent the love of Jesus while walking alongside people experiencing homelessness, poverty, addictions, or other life challenges.
We are so blessed with Chef Z who has a servant heart for the men at the Union Rescue Mission! He not only helps mentor and train men in culinary skills, he also shares his pond. The men had a great time in fellowship and fishing!
Blankets, car seats, cookware sets, mobile air conditioners, baby gyms and play mats were all delivered to an amazing program that serves women, Fresh Hope! This would not have been possible without the generosity of Amazon in Park City. Thank you, Amazon , for helping us build a stronger community!
We appreciate all the men and women who serve in our U.S. Armed Forces! We want to give a special thank you to SRA Johnson from the 22 Operation Support, 22 Air Refueling Wing, McConnell Air Force Base. His unit is currently hosting a drive through Nov. 25 and making weekly deliveries to Union Rescue Mission! A BIG thank you to every member in this unit for their service to our country and their heart for giving to our mission! And if that’s not enough, McConnell Air Force Base is also providing relief for the victims of the hurricanes.
God Bless America and go !
We continue to be so blessed by the wonderful volunteers who provide special dining experiences for our men. That experience is called Dining with Dignity! Deb and the Life.Church East Wichita team are the trainers and lead the charge in this effort.
During Dining with Dignity, the tables are arranged for our guests to be served, as if they are dining in a restaurant. Their meal is brought to our guests and their glasses are refilled. Our volunteers have the chance to interact with our guests to build friendships. The joy of serving and connecting with the guests is priceless…and Christ is honored!
The Phil Collins Experience came to the Cotillion in Wichita this past Saturday! The music was wonderful and so were the great folks at the Phil Collins Experience. The proceeds from the merchandise sales were donated to the Union Rescue Mission! Attending the concert was a great way to support the Mission while supporting the Phil Collins Experience and enjoying wonderful music! We were blessed by the tradition of generosity established by Mr. Collins - and now by the Phil Collins Experience! How is that for staying true to the artist? Thank you, Wichita, and thank you, Phil Collins Experience!
Yes, there is a great deal of evil and chaos in the world today BUT we know that light overcomes darkness! The wonderful folks from Wichita Feed the City are under the leadership of Cameron, Francisco, and Blake - members of the US Air Force at McConnell Air Force Base! O’Briens Irish Pub on East Kellogg have provided a sanitized environment where over 1,200 sack lunches were recently prepared. The Union Rescue Mission uses the meals with the men whom we serve and we distribute the extra to other ministries and not-for-profits serving the homeless and hungry.
If you want to join Cameron and his team on the first Saturday of the month to help him and Feed the City make a difference, contact [email protected]. Thank you men and women at McConnell for keeping us safe and blessing the City of Wichita! God is good!
Our Annual Celebration last night was a wonderful evening of praise and worship with our ministry partners! Our staff and men in programs shared how we provide rescue and recovery in our emergency overnight shelter and they discussed how our programs provide restoration and re-engagement. Every day we work to equip men to live independently again, engaging their families and communities.
If you missed it, please put October 7, 2025 on the calendar! We are so blessed to live in a community with so many generous folks who follow the Great Commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and all your mind.” And the second commandment is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Don’t miss The Phil Collins Experience next Saturday, October 12 at The Cotillion! While you’re there, be sure to pick up some merchandise – proceeds will benefit URM and our work providing rescue, recovery, restoration and re-engagement for men experiencing homelessness. It’s going to be a fun night for a great cause!

Calvin (left) was recently recognized for completing our Solid Ground program. His case manager, Rocky (right) recognized Calvin, as did all of our men in programs, for his accomplishment!
Calvin has completed course work including: a)Bible study (to learn God’s plan for life, keeping His commandments, participating in worship, and exalting the name and cause of Christ Jesus), b)When applicable, addiction counseling, anger management, and accountability for our decisions, c)Refresher course on math and reading (Butler County Community College), financial management/budgeting, and computer familiarity -- just to name a few of the many ways men are equipped to re-engage with their families and communities as new creations in Christ!
May God receive all of the glory for the life change happening at the Union Rescue Mission and a BIG thank you to all of our ministry partners who support us with prayers and gifts!

God brings us wonderful ways to encourage and equip the men who were recently homeless and had little hope. Our own Chef Z was so generous and recently invited our men to his farm pond for fishing and a great lunch. Attached are some of our favorite memories of the day!
Please keep us in mind when you have resources that you want to use to brighten someone’s day. God is changing lives and launching men to live independently again here at the Mission!
Wow, it is amazing what happens when the community works together for the good of those in need! ICT Food Rescue absolutely is a blessing when they connect the community surplus with the community needs as they do!
We are so grateful for ICT Food Rescue’s work and for the generosity of Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita and Koch.Eurest. They are powering the life change occurring in the lives of the men in programs at the Union Rescue Mission and providing rescue for those precious folks housed in the emergency overnight shelter.
Thank you everyone and thanks to the Lord for His provision!
John K. blessed the Mission recently with an incredible gift of ground beef and venison! Thanks to the generosity of all who support the Union Rescue Mission, we prepare three great meals per day for our men in programs and those in the emergency overnight shelter (around 125 men/day right now) for about $1,400 per week?!
Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. We can change lives together when we follow the leadership of our Lord, Jesus Christ!
Union Rescue Mission Chaplain Tom and Case Manager Caleb recently attended a Community Open House at Riverside Café where Stan Fisher Table Tops included a promotion for the Union Rescue Mission. Please support these wonderful businesses that do so much for our community! Stan Fisher Tabletops connects businesses and people in a fun way … what better way to learn about other businesses than while dining at your favorite restaurant?! God is good!
Meet David L. (left) and his case manager, Rocky. We are so grateful for all that God is doing in David’s life (and ours)! David has completed the residential Solid Ground program and now works part-time at the Mission in the laundry. David is moving into the Eagles Wings transitional apartments here on campus and can stay there for up to 18 months. During this time, men practice the life skills they have been taught, continue under case management, grow in their relationship with the Lord, operate under a budget paying off debt and saving money for their upcoming launch, and re-engage with family and community!
Thank you to our wonderful Union Rescue Mission partners - your partnership in prayers, under the lordship of Jesus Christ, make stories like this possible!
We are pleased to announce the men who were elected by their peers as Program Man of the Month for July and August! On the left is David (July) and in the center is Devon (August). Case Manager David B. is pictured with our deserving recipients. The men are involved in robust schedules including working on site, biblical studies, life skills training, financial literacy and budgeting, basic reading and math, computer skills, and preparing for employment at the end of the Solid Ground course work. We are so proud of these men! We are so grateful that God brought them to the Union Rescue Mission … look at those smiles of VICTORY! Thank you everyone for your prayers, support and ministry partnership!
We continue to be blessed with wonderful volunteers (better called “Ministry Partners”) who love our men and provide “Dining with Dignity” for the men in programs and the emergency overnight shelter. A restaurant seating and serving style supper is provided on these Friday evenings. Eastminster Church partnered with Life.Church East Wichita and boom - there was energy, love, and fellowship being shared. Also, we are grateful for Luke, a prospective medical school student, who has joined the team as well! May God continue to bless the many donors and ministry partners that support God’s work at the Mission.
Matthew 25:40: “And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'"
📢 Save the date! Our Annual Celebration is happening October 8 at 5:30 p.m. More details coming soon!
Sarah and her team at the Bel Aire Senior Center invited David and Caleb from the Union Rescue Mission to share what is happening at the Mission. We had a great visit and built new friendships. We also discussed the major initiatives underway at the Mission and, more importantly, we shared about victories that are occurring with our men on their journeys here! Caleb, who came to the Mission in 2021 to stay in the emergency overnight shelter, shared his journey — he is now a case manager at the Union Rescue Mission and is helping others! God is good!
What tastes great with maple syrup, cinnamon and then tossed with some rosemary? How about 110 pounds of butternut squash from the Union Rescue Mission garden! URM staff member Dave B. and men in our programs work in the kitchen, help care for our properties, clean the facility, and tend to the garden. God has assembled a special family here!
The great folks at Wichita Feed the City are wonderful at energizing volunteers to help feed the hungry. The local group leader, Cameron (who also serves in the U.S. Air Force) and O'Brien's Irish Pub, organized an event with wonderful volunteers who brought the food and prepared it at O’Brien's (so that the food was prepared in a sanitary environment). As a result, the Union Rescue Mission was the recipient of 1,200 sandwiches and cases of fruit! We are sharing this with other not-for-profit organizations and ministries involved in feeding those in need here in Wichita! It is incredible how people with a heart for those in need mobilize and share love and joy. May God continue to bless and protect all of our heroes serving in U.S. Armed Forces, the good folks at Feed the City, and owners of O’Brien’s Pub!

Reaching out to the “Unloved.”
In the late 1940’s, a woman known only as Miss Ledoux, working with merchants on East Douglas in Wichita, Kansas, saw a great need for a Mission to aid the homeless. She approached the Christian Business Men’s Committee in the summer of 1950, and the members, feeling a burden for the destitute men living on Wichita streets, agreed to establish a shelter.
The Union Rescue Mission is the extended arms of the various churches in the Wichita community, offering Christ’s Plan of Salvation to the Least, the Lost, and the Lonely.
The Union Rescue Mission is the largest emergency shelter and life-change center for men in the state of Kansas. The Mission’s 28,000-square foot facility in Wichita provides overnight housing and meals for homeless men, hosts a 12-month addiction recovery and Christian discipleship program called New Beginnings and distributes free food, diapers and infant formula to families and single mothers in need.
At the Union Rescue Mission, we firmly believe that need is met and lives are redeemed only through Christ-led partnerships. You can join with the Mission in its on-going battle to end homelessness, addiction and hunger by volunteering, becoming a mentor, serving meals, donating or any of a number of other ways. You can find a complete list of partnership opportunities here.
