Thursday was our last day visiting the community of Wana. It began with a visit to the preschool. Later we visited the water tank to where the water is pumped that provides the best views of the surrounding area. Finally, we said our goodbyes, with tons of hugs, prayers, and blessings to one another. The last picture is the view from a hotel in Quilali where we ate. Hermosa.
Fútbol… the universal language, especially with the kids in Wana.
Monday in Wana had our .bgav team meeting at the church with staff and community leaders to learn about the community development so far and dreams for the future, see the fence built at the school, learn about their new water pump that not only supplies Wana with water but other communities as well, a house the church and FH built for an older lady who has to care for her disabled daughter most of the day, and finally playing at the Coco River. Great day.
We began Wednesday at the office in Quilali, where we noticed the names of an alumnus on a banner, Mark (‘75) & Pam Grumbles who came in March. Then we went to a lovely home in Wana to learn about making cheese from fresh milk and rosaquillas from corn flour. After lunch we went to a home who was supplied a pig for breeding and to pass along a piglet from each litter to another family. We also helped give iodine shots (for iron) to the 5-day old piglets. Finally we went to St. John of the Rio Coco, on top of a mountain mind you, to visit a banana and coffee growing collective. Ten of the FH communities, but not Wana, have small banana/coffee growers. Awesome to see how families are assisted to transition from poverty.
Tuesday was a beautiful day! Día hermosa! We led a devotional time at the church in Wana. Awesome to see students who have never done something like this step up. Everybody loves Jordan. In the afternoon, our Catholic friends invited us to join them in the privilege of being welcomed into several homes to pray for the sick. Our hearts were full to watch God work through the compassion of the church.
Alisa Yang, Jordan Parker, and Jeffrey are serving with Foos for the Hungry to bring holistic community development to the Wana community in the mountains of north Nicaragua. After a multi delayed flight and 8.5 hours of windy travel in trucks, we made it to Quilali to spend Saturday night. Sunday saw us worshipping in the church in Wana. Our team represents four universities in Virginia. Please pray for us to have the eyes, hands, and feet of Christ this week.
