Maybe you have heard the term "s*x trafficking." Maybe you think this is a big-city problem and that we in Barrow, Banks, and Jackson counties are not impacted by s*x trafficking. Please keep reading...
S*x trafficking occurs when a trafficker exploits an individual with force, fraud, or coercion to perform commercial s*x acts or work. Victims are most often women and girls. Victims are controlled through isolation, shaming, and false promises of protection. Physical assault is sometimes used to control victims, but not always.
When *children* are trafficked, we refer to this as Commerical S*xual Exploitation of Children, abbreviated as CSEC. If you suspect that a child is a victim of CSEC, please call the Georgia hotline for human trafficking at 1-866-END-HTGA.
Tree House staff and Board Members had so much fun at the Grand Opening Festival for the new park in Winder! It was H-O-T outside, but that didn't keep hundreds (thousands?) of people from showing up to celebrate. Those who stopped by our table got to "Pick-a-Pop" and win some Tree House swag.
In our Nurturing Parenting Program, we have a few new moms who are in need of some baby items. Specifically, we are looking for a pack-and-play that has a built-in changing table feature, and a baby swing. These items do not have to be brand new; they can be gently used! If you have either of these to donate, please contact [email protected] or [email protected].
As Supervised Visitation month comes to an end, we would like to once again recognize our staff who coordinate opportunities for children to visit with their biological parents from whom they are separated. Jessica, Chelsea, and Nolyn are simply the best at what they do!
Our Supervised Visitation program needs equipment and activities that families can use outdoors during their time together. Please visit our Amazon registry for specific items that we would like to have. Thank you for supporting The Tree House!

The Tree House, Inc. has locations in both Winder and Commerce and sees hundreds of children and families each year, offering a variety of services to help them heal from child abuse. Services include forensic interviews during which a highly-trained professional has a recorded conversation with the child to gather their statement regarding any possible abuse that may have occurred or that they may have witnessed. The goal is for the child to feel as comfortable and safe as possible during what can be a very traumatic time.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. This initiative is rooted in communities working together to serve children and their families in meaningful, impactful ways that provide families with the support they need, especially during challenging times.
The Tree House, Inc. is the child advocacy center serving Barrow, Banks, and Jackson counties. The Tree House began in 1996 when a small group of people in our community united around a shared mission of preventing child abuse. Together, they created a child-friendly agency that offered prevention programs, as well as a place for children to come when they disclosed abuse.
