“School administrators can’t say it’s up to the parents. Parents can’t say it’s up to the teachers. Teachers can’t say it’s not their job. And kids can’t say, “I was too afraid to tell.” Every single one of us has to play our role if we’re serious about ending the madness. We are all responsible. We must be.”
– Megan Kelley Hall

At Pathlight Counseling we use positive psychology among other methods to help guide people into freedom and positive mental health. What is positive psychology?
Positive psychology is a scientific approach to studying human thoughts, feelings, and behavior, with a focus on strengths instead of weaknesses, building the good in life instead of repairing the bad, and taking the lives of average people up to “great” instead of focusing solely on moving those who are struggling up to “normal” (Christopher Peterson, 2008).
The common mistake that bullies make is assuming that because someone is nice that he or she is weak. Those traits have nothing to do with each other. In fact, it takes considerable strength and character to be a good person.
–Mary Elizabeth Williams
Courage is fire, and bullying is smoke.
–Benjamin Disraeli
One’s dignity may be assaulted, vandalized and cruelly mocked, but it can never be taken away unless it is surrendered.
–Michael J. Fox
Through the unique approach of Positive Psychology (PP), the staff at PathLight Counseling share a common goal of providing excellent care for our clients. In recovery themselves, each member of our educated and professional clinical team offers a unique perspective to treatment. With both education and personal experience, our team members offer evidence-based approaches with true empathy and understanding.
Self-Care - The ongoing practice of taking care of one's physical, emotional, and mental well-being by engaging in activities and behaviors that promote self-nurturance, self-compassion, and self-love.
As the new school year begins, we stand together against bullying. Every student deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. By promoting kindness, empathy, and understanding, we can create a supportive environment for everyone. Remember, it starts with each of us. 💙
Have you ever found yourself trying to change someone, hoping they'll turn into the person you want them to be? 🌈 It's a common experience, but it's important to remember that when someone shows you their true colors, you shouldn't try to repaint them. People reveal who they are through their actions and behaviors, and it's essential to accept them as they are. 💫
Trying to change someone can lead to frustration and disappointment, not just for you but for them as well. Instead, focus on surrounding yourself with people who align with your values and bring positivity into your life. 💖
Embrace authenticity, both in yourself and in others. True relationships are built on acceptance and understanding, not on attempts to mold someone into a different version of themselves. 🌟

Mental health issues can affect anyone, regardless of race, color, gender, or identity. These challenges are universal and do not discriminate based on background. However, one's background and identity can significantly impact their ability to access mental health services. National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month was initiated in 2008 to address and start changing these disparities.
Every year, millions of Americans confront the reality of living with mental health conditions.
Addressing the complexities of mental health issues, healthcare access, and the stigma surrounding mental illness requires collective effort. In many communities, these challenges are exacerbated by limited access to care, cultural stigmas, and lower-quality healthcare.
Each person's journey is unique, shaped by their experiences, dreams, struggles, and growth.
It's a reminder that our journey is our own, and it's okay if others don't fully grasp it. They aren't walking in our shoes, and they don't need to validate or understand every step we take.

Positive psychology is an exciting and relatively new branch of psychology that focuses on the good stuff in life. It highlights the positive influences we all have, like our character strengths, optimistic emotions, and supportive environments. The idea is that happiness comes from both our emotional and mental well-being.

Healing is not a straight line. Some days are harder than others, and that's okay. It's important to remember that it's perfectly normal to have ups and downs. We can't expect ourselves to be the same every day. The key is to meet ourselves where we are, with compassion and patience. Every step, no matter how small, is progress. 💪✨
