📢 Important Enteral Syringe Update 📢

GEDSA has been actively engaged with the FDA and the United States Trade Representative (USTR) on syringe matters that could impact patient safety. Recently, the FDA has stated, “The FDA is not recommending a transition away from all enteral syringes manufactured in China at this time.”

GEDSA is closely monitoring this situation, including the USTR’s proposed 50% tariff on syringes imported from China.

The Global Enteral Device Supplier Association (GEDSA) has issued public comments to the United States Trade Representative asking for enteral, oral, and neuraxial syringes to be exempted from the recently proposed 50% tariff on syringes made in China. The tariff, scheduled to go into effect in August, creates risks to patient safety and could compromise patient access to life-sustaining medical supplies.

GEDSA is actively working with the FDA to understand their safety concerns around plastic syringes manufactured in China.
This collaboration aims to understand the FDA's concerns and how to potentially resolve them while also considering and monitoring possible supply chain impacts. We encourage stakeholders to share their concerns and questions with GEDSA in order to streamline communication with the FDA.

We're excited to share our new NRFit Flyer highlighting a significant update from NHS' National Patient Safety Team. This alert, co-badged by the Association of Anaesthetists, Royal College of Anaesthetists, and the Safe Anaesthesia Liaison Group, mandates all NHS-funded providers to transition to NRFit™ connectors. This change affects all intrathecal and epidural procedures and the delivery of regional blocks.
