This , during the exhilarating 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, we’re excited to bring you a look through our archives at some sporting legends of our very own! Enjoy these images of Junior League Members of the past who enjoyed equestrianism, tennis, hunting, golf, sailing, as well as a youth handbook for the 1984 Olympic Games, created by the Junior League of Los Angeles, CA.

The majority of these images are from the June 1928 issue of "The Junior League Magazine," dedicated to Junior League sportswomen. Fun fact: Helen Wills (Junior League of San Francisco, CA) was a tennis champion and winner of 161 straight matches (141 straight without losing a set) from 1927-1933 and 19 major Women’s Singles Championships (International Tennis Hall of Fame).

Interested in seeing more? Take a minute to explore our Junior League archives, the AJLI Digital Collections (https://www.myajli.org/governance/ajli-digital-collections). Check out the Publications section to find these magazine images.

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 We love to help our community!

Thank you Junior League of Yakima volunteers! Guided by Bob Douthitt, Triumph’s Housing Case Manager at our Family Emergency Shelter, volunteers painted multiple sections of chalkboard wall in the playroom at this emergency housing facility in downtown Yakima. Because of the location, children living here have no access to an outdoor play area, so this addition to the indoor playroom is a big hit! We are so grateful for the group that gave their time to help brighten this space!

Another fabulous Junior League of Yakima member doing good things!

Our very own Lizzie Lemon was recognized for her service with Southwest Rotary of Yakima and presented with the George M. Martin Award last night! Way to go, Lizzie! Thank you for your service to our community! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

What an amazing end to a wonderful year for President Lynn Harlington! We were blessed to start the celebration having Tony Klein give a beautiful Invocation. Lynn continued the evening recognizing the wonderful Board of Directors followed by the award portion where Lynn awarded the George M. Martin Award (The award selected by the President as the person who supports the club in a variety of ways) to Lizzie Lemon and the Robert T. Knudsen Award (The award selected by the BOD for the member that shows the true spirit of Service Above Self) to Brittanie Vaughn. We ended the evening with Tom Sparling doing an amazing presentation honoring all of the things Lynn accomplished as well as the support that was given by her family (including her amazing husband and fellow Rotarian Joe Harlington). The evening ended with the passing of the gavel to Matt Reed who we know has so many great things planned for our club. It’s always great to be a member of Southwest Rotary of Yakima!

Today, we commemorate in the United States.
