Our goal is to raise money to help teachers dream beyond their budget.
We had the opportunity to assist with funding the Davis Outdoor backpacking kits needed for their year-end backpacking trip at Packwood Lake!
This provided them an incredible opportunity for the club to explore the outdoors, develop valuable skills and create lasting memories.
We love to support such enriching experiences that promote adventure, learning and personal growth!

"Thank you, Yakima Schools Foundation for funding our grant proposal to attend the Cowiche Canyon Conservancy, Snow Mountain Ranch trails. Our fifth graders enjoyed listening to the guides as we hiked through the talking trails. The kids got to experience a true shrub-steppe habitat and view wildlife. This was a great experience for our students. For many students, it was the first time they had experienced our local hiking trails. Thank you for making this happen." Cowiche Canyon Conservancy

A Special congratulations to Christina Carlson, our Champion of Youth Award Recipient! Christina has been a mentor at Washington Middle School for the past 3 years. During this time, she has created meaningful relationships that have made a genuine impact on her mentees and family’s lives. Aside from mentoring, she also happens to be a retired Yakima Schools Foundation board member who still manages to find time to volunteer. Whether it is speaking at events or encouraging others to get involved, she continuously finds ways to make an impact on students’ lives.
Her continued involvement in supporting Yakima Schools isn’t surprising for those that know her, her energy is truly unmatched. Her work has been incredibly impactful to not only the youth but the surrounding community!

Congratulations to our board member Sy Ruiz on 39 under 39! We are lucky to have you, you are an integral part of the foundation and community!
39 Under 39: Sy Ruiz has always been a believer in Yakima.
"At an early age, I knew I wanted to work in Yakima," Ruiz said. "I went to college at the University of Washington, and I saw this rhetoric that you had to leave Yakima to be successful.
"I disagreed with it. I knew I wanted to come back."
And Ruiz, 27, not only came back, but he obtained his dream job: public relations and development director for OIC of Washington. In his position, Ruiz oversees OIC's civic engagement, marketing and grant-writing divisions, combining skills he gained in college, working with his parents and serving in the community.

YSF Supporters,
The Yakima Schools Foundation exists to enhance educational opportunities for students by funding grants for teachers. Many teachers and other district personnel support the Yakima Schools Foundation in so many ways.
The Yakima School District recently announced layoffs that will negatively impact students and their opportunities.
The Yakima Schools Foundation remains committed to working with teachers and the Yakima School District to continue supporting educational opportunities for students. Now more than ever, outside sources of support to students are vital to their success and the foundation will continue fundraising and advocating for student educational opportunities via our monthly events and Celebrate our Youth event. We hope you continue to support us while we continue to work to support the students.
Many individual teachers, paraprofessionals, and admin personnel are impacted by the YSD situation. These are people that have helped the Yakima Schools Foundation throughout the years. We give our sincere sympathies to those affected.
Respectfully,
Executive Director Shawna Masters, President Sam Johnson on behalf of the YSF Board of Directors
