Creating a community of women who feel safe sharing the ups and downs of motherhood. http://mamahoodpodcast.com Hey, I’m Melissa. I became a mom in my mid-30s.
Prior to that, I thought I had life figured out. When I was pregnant, I prepped for breastfeeding my baby and for labor. I didn't think about how my life would change. As a married 30-something, my life was filled with work and lots of activities. I always kept busy. Sometimes working three different jobs because my passions led me to them and I had the time. I felt in control. There were no compl

I spent all of last year searching for the "old me...before baby."
Trying to "snap back" to this "old me."
Yearning for time to do the things I "used to" enjoy.
I failed to realize that there's only ONE me.
No versions.
My body is MY body and it does amazing things like run miles, dance, and even labor for hours.
Just not at the same time.
Same me.
Just different chapters.
It was fun to party late into the night. It's also a blast to play in the park with my little man.
Some of my friends have come along with me, others don't care to reach out. It's all good.
That doesn't make them "old friends" or "bad friends."
We're just on different paths.
Happiness truly comes when you just embrace all of you, all of the time.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas!
I'm over here cuddling with my bae so he can sleep soundly at grandmas.
Colic is so short lived that I feel like we forget how hard it is. For the mom that's in the thick of it,however, it feels like an eternity.
In this episode, I explain colic, share my empathy and survival tips and give you some comfort from a mom on the other side. We survived. You will too.
If you're in the midst of it now, I understand your pain. If you're pregnant, listen. Don't be afraid. 1 in 5 children are said to have colic. If you're child does, you will survive it. If you had a child that was colic-free, listen to offer a consoling ear to a friend in the future.
Listen on Apple podcasts or Google Play. Then use to share your colicky baby story. I will repost it on
Another workout in the books. I used to work out 5-6x a week. And some days it was my own workout and then teaching two fitness classes.
Now I'm averaging about 3 workouts a week.
Our reality constantly changes and we have to roll with the punches.
But everyday I work harder towards eating healthier and staying active. Even if it's just a stroll with the baby.
My goal is a solid 4 weeks doing 4 workouts a week.
I'll report back at the end of this week.
Keep striving to be your best you.
My boobie schkooby starts swimming lessons this week and he'll be rocking his reusable swim diapers!
I can't wait for him to begin.
We're going to have a fun summer!
You know you drink too much coffee when you have to ask for an extra cup and lid so you're son can play pretend coffee drinker!
This little guy is growing so much. I'm impressed with the speed in which he's learning communications skills.
He may not say many words yet but he understands so much.
He's also super strong and careful.
Today he walked the balance beam all by himself. I had my hands close in case he slipped but it wasn't necessary. He did both the one wide one and a much thinner one.
Tomorrow he turns 16 months old!
I've been documenting our journey in weaning night nursing on my Instagram stories but tomorrow I'll be sharing how the first three days went on the .
Next week, I'll share part two.
New moms and mothers of older children will benefit from the chat I had with .
As an empowerment and wellness mentor, Elvira Cabreja helps ambitious women take strategic action to reach both their short term and long term goals.
It is her passion to work with women one on one and give them the support they need to turn their dreams a reality.
Major takeaway for me: You have to accept help. Trying to do it all yourself will drive you to a dark place. One that Elvira has crawled out of and her family is thriving because of it.

ahhhhhh I've never been more excited AND scared to go LIVE with something like EVER. My shop with the Reppin' Mamáhood T-shirts is going up real soon. Its like the most exciting thing! I have so many other items in mind to put up as well.
I just wanted to share motherhood stories. I just wanted to feel like I wasn't the only woman having the experiences I was having on my journey. And then it happened. Women agreed to share! Moms struggling, moms thriving, and moms just trying to get by and here we are! 31 episodes in and a wonderful community of mothers just supporting one another.
FB group coming next, newsletter, and this year I am heading to a few conventions to meet the industry peeps and talk to a few brands.
This is a labor of love and when the shop is up, your t-shirt purchases will support the costs associated with hosting the podcast, editing, etc. Plus you will be rocking awesome gear.
I put together a few items with all types of moms in mind. I can't wait to show you.

Felt like spring at the conservatory!
I love member days. Will def return when it’s warmer to walk the grounds with my little guy.
When I was pregnant, I’d go to all my favorite parks and imagine what it would be like to have my little guy with me.
Today was the most perfect day, exactly like I imagined.
We got out the house early and spent the whole morning at the playground. Came back home for lunch and a 2-hour nap for baby while I worked, and then hit up the lake for another two hours while chatting and playing with one of my close girlfriends.
He had so much fun! Then we waited outside our apartment building for daddy to get home.
Baby boy is already knocked out for the night and momma is hitting the gym!
I know all days won’t work out as planned. I’m so grateful for today. Truly filled my cup.
I workout for the after workout snuggles.
I’m in this interesting place in my fitness. The Beachbody extreme workouts that are live are still a little too intense. And the beginner workouts are too easy.
So I’ve gone back to Insanity Max 30 because the modifier allows me to go hard when I want and take it easy when I must.
Once the weather warms up, my goal is to do Insanity outside at our playground!!!
Don’t you just loooove ’s lettering style???

I can’t wait to share it with you.

For most women, who have one or more noncancerous fibroids, the complications during pregnancy are none. However, for 10 to 30% of pregnant women, fibroids can cause severe abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding.
Maria Duncan was growing a baby in her body as a fibroid continued to grow. The experience was unique, but the lessons are universal.

Anybody else receive these directions from their Midwife or Doctor prior to labor?
I followed them to a T.
The only two I can say that I’m fully aware definitely helped was the Arnica oil massage and the Arnica pellets.
The massage you do at home twice a week and then being the rest of the bottle to the delivery room.
My midwife used it for the push phase and it definitely helped a lot.
The other two, I have no clue if they helped but I did them anyway and would probably do it again.

Watching my little man play with his grandparents warms my heart.
So my workout was a little wonky today. I started off with my regular 30 minute routine but 15 minutes in little man demanded way more attention than I could give so I switched it up to an 8 minute ab routine on the floor. He sat on my tummy the whole time and felt content watching me huff and puff through the exercises.
Sometimes you just have to make it work.
Hey little man! Momma has work to do! I have to tell peeps about my most recent podcast episode. 😉
I was just telling my husband how ridiculously fulfilled I feel right at this moment being the mother to this baby boy and being the wife to a great man.
Was that always the case? No!
The first half of last year was filled with tons of growth and shedding of expectations and beliefs.
I work from home and I’m a stay at home mom. I’ve worked from home for years and thought I had a groove but when you add a baby, everything changes and I wasn’t prepared for that.
A friend of mine told me early on to let go of my expectations. And although, I thought I did, I clearly was upset when my day was turned upside down or when I was up at 2am trying to do work that should have been in by close or business.
A huge balancing act. Hoping the pieces wouldn’t crumble. Yet I was crumbling.
What do you do when you get exactly what you want in life and you’re still unhappy?
First, you whine and complain and then you get into action!
Gratitude has helped a ton. Literally sitting down and speaking out loud how amazing my life really is. Even when the days appear to be pretty dull, I can always sit back and count the great moments.
Truly letting go of expectations and realizing I’m not super mom.
Letting go of what no longer was working. Things that were stressing me out, taking time away from what I wanted and adding no value.
Spending time with the people who help fill your cup. Getting the baby to bed at an early time and NOT passing out as well so I could actually say hello to my husband without a child climbing on us. Hi husband!!!
Prioritizing what needs to get done versus the long list of everything I would like to get done. Top three. That’s what I focus on. If they are down, and there’s time, then I will take on another task but if not, I accomplished my top three.
Everything else can wait.
You can apply these simple principles to anything in life.
Happiness lives in our actions.
Yayyyyy to new memories in 2018!
I can’t wait to fill up the jar with all our happy moments of the year.
Sometimes it’s so easy to feel like you missed the mark. Maybe your life underwent major change or perhaps you experienced a loss. The sad moments seem to take over and cloud all the sweet and happy moments that we live on a day to day.
My husband and I will fill this jar with the memories we are most grateful for and on 12/31/18, we will open it and reminisce together.
We already have one note in there! 🥂
