Lack of Focus, Anxiety, stress, back flashes to traumatic experiences, depressive mood, lack of self

Feeling safe and secure in one's brain and body (nervous system) is the foundation for healthy mental and physical development. This information came along decades ago, but somehow it hasn't reached all the systems and approaches to supporting children yet. I share about how we carry this out from birth to adulthood in my latest book, Brain Body Parenting, linked in bio.

Each of us needs time to spend with the people who most inspire a sense of joy in our hearts, and each of us needs time to rest. Today consider taking a moment to observe what you need most, togetherness or separateness, and reflect on how to invite that into your day. Share in the comments below which pillar you feel most connected to today. 🌞

There is a constant flow of thousands of nerve impulses to the brain, both from the surface and from within the body, and a flow of commands from the brain to all parts of the body. In BSR we seek to restore nerve communication and promote optimal health, through self-healing.

You can feel like you are losing them during the teenage years, even though they're right there in front of you.

One day, you are laughing and getting along, the next you feel like you are sitting with a stranger you don't know in the least.

They might be unrecognizable, growing six inches in a span of six months.

They might have changed personalities, from sweet and loving to salty and stoic.

They might have changed their interests, their focus, their dreams.

You lose them to their phones. You lose them to their rooms. You lose them to their friends, their activities, their jobs.

You may feel desperate to cling to the child you once knew, the one who adored you, the one you got along with, the one whose hand you thought you'd hold forever.

You may feel like crying from their constant rejection. You may feel lost when you can't get them back on track. You may feel insignificant when they ignore you or lash out.

You will grow impatient with the status of your relationship. You will feel frustrated with the push and pull. You will grieve what is no longer there.

You will pull back. You will say less. You will watch from afar.

You will take whatever interaction you can get even if it is always on their terms.

You will pick and choose your battles because you are tired of so many battles.

You will try to stay available even though they are mostly unavailable.

And then one day when you least expect it, you will feel something shift.

You’ll see glimpses of the person they are becoming, and you begin to look forward to seeing what they will do with their life.

You start to learn about their new interests, their new passions, their new sense of self.

You will begin building a new relationship, one where you are no longer their sun. Your job is to be their moon, connected by a force so strong that it will never break. You will follow them along, providing light in their darkest moments, direction when needed. Sometimes your presence is large and looming, and sometimes it is small, barely seen by the naked eye. But you will always be there.

It won't be perfect. It won't be what it was.

But if you can survive losing your teen for a little bit, what happens when they come back to you can be even more beautiful.

“Heal yourself,
with the light of the sun
and the rays of the moon. 🌙
With the sound of the river
and the waterfall.
With the swaying of the sea
and the fluttering of birds.

Heal yourself with mint,
neem, and eucalyptus.
Sweeten with lavender,
rosemary, and chamomile.
Hug yourself with the cocoa bean
and a hint of cinnamon.
Put love in tea instead of sugar
and drink it looking at the stars.

Heal yourself with the kisses
that the wind gives you
and the hugs of the rain.
Stand strong with your
bare feet on the ground
and with everything that
comes from it.

Be smarter every day
by listening to your intuition,
looking at the world with your
forehead. 👁

Jump,
dance,
sing,
so that you live happier.

Heal yourself,
with beautiful love,
and always remember -
YOU are the medicine.”

Thank you Albé for the readings you have done for my animal babies. It was spot on and helped me to appreciate and understand them so much better.

I was sipping my tea this afternoon. My eye caught a little wagtail who seemed to have really figured out how to slow life down. He strolled up and down the pathway in our garden, in search something to eat. He took his time bouncing up and down in such a steady manner, until finally he found a juicy worm. He took his time to enjoy his meal and ruffled his feathers in between. There was no rush. Nature is patient - there is no resistance, doubt, anger, impatience or force.

Today I’ll set down my worries for a while. (After all, they’ll still be there later.) Today I’ll spend an extra minute to sip my cup of tea. Today I’ll wave another car forward when we meet at a four-way stop. Today I’ll double the amount of eye contact I share with my family and friends.

Today I’ll press pause☺️

Here’s to fewer distractions, slower living, —and more awareness of the moments that make us think. THIS is what it’s all about.

The joy of experiencing life with my children:

Since they were born I thought they can't get any cuter and I wanted to hold on to each stage.

Yesterday, however, I was in awe again with my 18 year old.

He told me that in his experience there are far too many fights among siblings after family members pass away and that we must prevent it before the time. He also made me aware that people are struggling with the death of a loved one and then also have to struggle without the loved ones' passwords for their banking details, social media and cell phones. They also need a list of people that should be contacted first.

So he decided that he will be the keeper of all the information that we need to put in a sealed envelope for when the time comes. That must also include the wishes for the celebration of life ceremony. "My ashes must please not go into the ocean where human waste is going into. I won't like it to be mixed with that! Rather put it in the soil to help plants grow", he said.

He then wrote his will with specifics on who gets what of his jewelery collection and clothes (I consider myself lucky because I was shown what I will get!).

His sister, of course, panicked when she received the instructions and he had to assure her that he is not suicidal just practical.

So today we will have a braai and write our documents together.

Maybe another lesson of Covid is to discuss difficult topics openly.

"Death is a normal part of life and should be discussed without fear", he said.

The leader of the tribe has spoken.

ek besef nou eers...

'n deel van my het agter jou aangespring...

jou val het my vir ewig vermink...

Jeanita le Roux:

Waagmoed
