This Womens month, we're proud to shine a spotlight on Mandi Fine,a trailblazing FORCE on our board whose vision, dedication and leadership inspire us all. We caught up with her, and this is what she had to share :

Interviewer: How do you unwind after a stressful day?
Mandi: I walk , do yoga, padel and enjoy a good round of boxing !

Interviewer: What does it mean to be a part of SA Heart ?
Mandi: Being a part of SA Heart is very important to me because I get to apply 25 years of Healthcare communication skills from FINE, An IPG Health Associate Company in an organisation that that shares my values . It also affords me the opportunity to make a difference to many South Africans and to fulfill SA Heart's vision of advancing cardiovascular health for all living in SA.

Interviewer: One last thing about you?
Mandi: Having the name Fine ,means that I aspire to be my Finest. Which is a way of being for me.Its about pushing to be my best and the ability to see the light and opportunity in all things.

Dear Clint
The struggle is real. Our colleagues do not have to raise funds for appendectomies, fractured legs, or trauma care. The suffering endured by patients due to the neglect Palliative Care is a tragedy.

Additionally, while we are grateful for the nursing positions, the clinical leadership and skills that doctors bring are also required for a complete multidisciplinary team (MDT). This will support the formation of sustainable and robust teams that ultimately change the culture of a hospital and expand palliative care competencies to other colleagues.

We at Abundant Life PC are merely following in the shadow of Sisters Like Sr Pat Pigeon of Helderberg Hospice

It is with heavy hearts that we salute and say goodbye to Sr Patricia Mary Pigeon, fondly known as Sr Pat Pigeon. The founder of Helderberg Hospice, Sr Pat Pigeon started serving our community with palliative care from the boot of her car in 1985.

Her indomitable spirit and passion for care saw the growth of Helderberg Hospice from her car to a room in an antique shop next to the Somerset West Post Office, to Hospice House in Old Stellenbosch Road, Somerset West.

Sr Pat served as Matron until 1998, after which she was appointed to the Helderberg Hospice Board of Directors, continuing to be involved in advocating for palliative care and being a part of the Hospice family.

Rest in Peace Sr Pat – you will be sorely missed.
