What is Interventional Radiology?
Interventional Radiology (IR) is a medical speciality that uses advanced imaging techniques such as X-rays, fluoroscopy, MRI, and ultrasound to guide minimally invasive procedures.
These procedures often offer less risk, less pain, and shorter recovery times compared to traditional surgery.
This video highlighting Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE) is a groundbreaking procedure that offers a minimally invasive solution for women suffering from uterine fibroids.
Our video showcases the UFE procedure, explaining how it works and the benefits it provides. UFE is a good alternative treatment option for women who do not want to have a hysterectomy or where drug treatment is not controlling the menorrhagia. It can improve fertility as well as dyspareunia (deep pelvic pain) experienced during sexual in*******se. This is a non-surgical procedure that requires a short stay in the hospital and is performed in the Interventional suite at Lake, Smit And Partners. UFE is performed by an Interventional Radiologist.

A momentous day brimming with pride as Lake, Smit and Partners Inc. participated in the CANSA Relay for Life 2024! With 52 enthusiastic staff members, we formed four truly spirited and amazing teams:
· Team Westville - Relay Warriors: Dominated the Pyjama lap and won the Best Team Design award.
· Team St. Augustines - Challengers of the Unknown: Took on the Superhero lap with great passion.
· Team Entabeni - Glow Getters: Lit up the Glow in the Dark lap and earned the Best Team Spirit award.
· Team Head Office - Miles for Smiles: Rocked the 80s lap with flair.
Lake, Smit and Partners Inc. had a day filled with fun, team spirit, camaraderie, and a rollercoaster of emotions as we honoured those who have battled cancer.

We were invited to exhibit at this event, and we couldn't have asked for a better day filled with exceptional service and teamwork. A huge shoutout to the coordinating team at Mount Edgecombe Pro Golf Shop for their outstanding support and seamless organization - you truly made our day unforgettable! Today, we’re focusing on crucial safety tips for anyone with specific medical conditions or implants who may need an MRI scan. Your safety is our priority!
1. Aneurysm Clips: These can move or heat up in an MRI, causing severe injury. Always inform your doctor and MRI technician if you have one.
2. Pacemakers: The MRI’s magnetic field can interfere with pacemakers, which can be life-threatening. Make sure to disclose any pacemaker details to your healthcare provider.
3. Electronic/Metallic Implants: Devices like defibrillators, spinal cord stimulators, or neurostimulators can be affected by MRI. Inform your doctor about any implants to take necessary precautions.
4. Cochlear Implants: The magnetic field can damage cochlear implants. Notify your healthcare provider to ensure safety or explore alternative imaging options.
5. Bullets or Shrapnel: Metal fragments can move or heat up in the MRI, leading to serious injury. Disclose any history of bullets or shrapnel in your body.
6. Eye Implants or Foreign Bodies: Metal in eye implants or foreign bodies can cause injury. Inform your doctor and technician about any such implants.
7. Pregnancy: MRI scans are generally safe, but extra caution is advised, especially during the first trimester. Always inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or suspect you might be.

How to Prepare for an MRI:
1. Wear loose, comfortable cotton clothing without metal fasteners.
2. Follow any fasting or diet instructions if your scan requires this.
3. Arrive early to complete the necessary paperwork and discuss any concerns with the technician.
4. If a patient has been sedated, they will require someone to drive them back home upon completion of the scan.

Essential MRI Safety Precautions:
1. Inform your doctor if you have any electronic devices, metal implants, pacemakers, aneurysm clips or bullets.
2. Remove all metal objects such as jewellery, watches, hairpins, coins, and cellphones before the scan.
3. Notify the technician of any tattoos or body piercings, as some materials may contain metal.

Lake, Smit and Partners Inc. proudly announces the heartfelt success of our Mandela Day Initiative, where we came together to make a meaningful difference in our communities. In honour of Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's legacy, we dedicated our service across all our venues through this collection, spreading kindness and support to those in need.
Our campaign, which began on 27th June 2024, reached its inspiring conclusion on 18th July 2024. During this time, our ten venues and head office staff joined forces to donate items from the wish lists of various local charities. These items included food, detergents, clothing, toys, laundry essentials, cupcakes, and other treats. Our teams worked together in the true spirit of teamwork and generosity to ensure their chosen charities received the support they needed.
