Weaning Tips Wednesday:

Introducing your baby to solid foods, also referred to as weaning or complementary feeding, starts when your baby is around 6 months old. Your baby should be introduced to a varied diet, alongside their usual breast milk or first infant formula.

Our Bear Plate, Spoon and Fork set is the perfect way to introduce new food to baby. The sets come in three exciting colors. It will make eating time easy and fun as it is sure to capture baby’s attention!🦁

Fine motor skills involve the use of the smaller muscle of the hands. Fine motor skill efficiency significantly influences the quality of the task outcome as well as the speed of task performance. Efficient fine motor skills require a number of independent skills to work together to appropriately manipulate the object or perform the task

Create your own wildlife adventure with this Movable Playbook – African Safari, using re-usable Magic Movables. Movable Playbooks help develop imagination and fine motor skills and all the while encouraging independent play.

Use the re-usable animal stickers to create a fun African waterhole picture on the fold-out play scene, including giraffes, lions, elephants and even a cute little chameleon. To create a new safari scene every time you play, just peel and re-stick again. Then when you are finished, pack up is super fun with the ‘match the animal’ puzzle on the back cover!

And if the Magic Movables lose their stick, just wash them under cold water and start again!🦁

Gross Motor Mondays: The Balance Beam 🤸‍♂️

Gross motor (physical) skills are those which require whole body movement and which involve the large (core stabilising) muscles of the body to perform everyday functions, such as standing and walking, running and jumping, and sitting upright at the table. They also includes eye-hand coordination skills such as ball skills (throwing, catching, kicking) as well as riding a bike or a scooter and swimming.

With the balance beam, your child will practice coordinating their large muscles to balance and practice walking in a straight line. They will also practice and build their core muscles. They will use those same muscles to be able to sit upright all day while in school 🦁.

Hello Cubs🦁,

We are so excited to add two new products to our collection: the balance beam and the stepping stones!

The balance beam helps your toddlers to strengthen their muscles and core and help them to maintain stability – a very important trait as this will help them to engage in playful activities such as jumping, hopping and skipping too. Balance beams also encourage flexibility and coordination — so your child will explore their body's capabilities and limits.

The stepping stones (which come in a set of six different colors) can be used indoor or outdoor. These stones help to develop balance, coordination and gross motor skills while teaching kids how to estimate distance and identify different colours. They provide a fun and safe environment to learn how to jump on or off objects with their bright colours and anti-skid base.

Find these amazing and exciting products on our website for hours of endless fun🦁

Weaning Tips Wednesday: The Silicone Bib 👶

Silicone bibs feature a convenient crumb catcher that effortlessly scoops baby’s mess, so you don’t have to. These deep pockets pick up pieces of food and liquids, to keep your child’s clothes clean and the table or high chair free from spills. They are designed to make life easier for the entire family and mealtime much more enjoyable for all. Even the messiest of meals are sure to be easier with a silicone bib around your little one’s neck.

Food-grade silicone is a BPA-free material, so you don’t have to worry about exposing your child to any harmful chemicals like phthalates, lead, cadium, or metal. These eco-friendly products are not made from plastic, so they’re safe to use with hot or cold foods. Moreover, silicone is a soft material that won’t hurt your baby’s neck.

Bonded silicone is a natural element that is among the safest materials to use with food. It doesn’t release any chemicals or absorb any toxic materials when it comes into contact with food or drinks, so you don’t have to worry about harm to your little one.

It’s always a good idea to get toddler bibs for messy kids. Except if the material is traditional fabric, it entails more work. Unlike fabric bibs, silicone has a natural resistance to bacteria, odors, and stains. This is great for new parents who are already overwhelmed with so much work because you don’t even have to put these bibs in the washer. Simply wipe them clean, and they’ll be ready to use again within minutes. After a few uses, fabric bibs start to look old and stained. They may even smell bad – which must be unpleasant for babies who have to wear them. With silicone bibs, you can be sure that your baby won’t smell anything other than the delicious food you cooked for them. These bibs stay clean and look new much longer than the fabric kind, which makes them a green choice that is better for you and also for the environment.

Weaning Tips Wednesday: The Sippy Cup🍼

Your baby probably won't be able to hold a cup or drink solo without spilling until after age 1, but let them start practicing earlier. The ideal time to introduce a sippy cup—whether with a straw, spouted, or spoutless—is typically around 6 months old, when they start solids. They will be having a lot of new sensory, motor, and cognitive experiences when they're first eating, so it may be best to wait a week or two before adding the cup. Also, as with all transitions, think about what else is going on in your child's life before you begin. Have they started a new daycare? Did you recently move houses? If there have been any big changes, you may want to wait a month or so before beginning the switch to a cup. Too many changes at once will make your child feel insecure and likely to cling to familiar routines and objects.

First, offer an empty cup and let your baby explore and play with it. Do this for several days so they'll be familiar with the cup before you put liquid in it. You can also explain that they're soon going to start drinking from the cup.

Make sure your child is seated before giving them a cup with water, breast milk, or formula (never juice at this age). Hold the cup up to their mouth and tilt it slowly so a little liquid dribbles in. Give your child time to swallow before offering more. If you put breast milk or formula (or even a smear of pureed baby food ) at the tip of a baby cup that has a short straw, your baby will taste it and probably suck the straw to get more.

Gross motor skills are important to enable children to perform every day functions like walking and running, playground skills and sporting skills.

However, these are crucial for everyday self care skills like dressing (where you need to be able to stand on one leg to put your leg into a pant leg without falling over) and climbing into and out of a car or even getting into and out of bed.

Gross motor abilities also have an influence on other everyday functions. For example, a child’s ability to maintain appropriate table top posture (upper body support) will affect their ability to participate in fine motor skills (e.g. writing, drawing and cutting) and sitting upright to attend to class instruction, which then impacts on their academic learning. Gross motor skills impact on your endurance to cope with a full day of school (sitting upright at a desk, moving between classrooms, carrying your heavy school bag). They also impacts your ability to navigate your environment.

Without fair gross motor skills, a child will struggle with many day to day tasks such as eating, packing away their toys to getting onto and off the toilet or potty. 🤍

Weaning tip Wednesdays! 🥦

Between 4-6 months is the recommended age for weaning, where it’s recommended that waiting till 6 months is the healthiest.

Signs to look out for in your little cub to know they’re ready to wean:
1. Gets hungry and fussy around food
2. Can pick up and hold objects between their finger and thumb (pincer grip)
3. Can hold their head up and sit up unassisted
4. Gets rid of the tongue-thrust reflex (meaning they’re able to keep food in their mouth instead of pushing it out)
5. Imitates you as you chew, with those oh-so-cute grandfather gums 😍

And lastly… Your baby will only really be ready once they have something from our weaning collection! 🤩

Whether you choose baby led weaning or traditional methods… Happy weaning, momma’s! 🍲
