Hehe... it's not that they mean to, but seriously, there will be a LOT of "organized chaos" in your house when you bring your newborn home.
πŸ‘‰ changes in your daily activities (you're starting a new full-time job, with no real training manual. Hours are 24/7 with no lunch or tea breaks and no annual leave πŸ˜… or sick days 😳)
πŸ‘‰ changes in how you set up your home, where you put things, how things look - to make it as convenient as possible πŸ€ͺ
πŸ‘‰ changes in how you regard and think of yourself - you both have new roles to play as a mother and a father to someone else (not just a partner to each other anymore) πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘¦
πŸ‘‰ changes ⬆️ demand on your budget πŸ’°
πŸ‘‰ changes to your sleep patterns (go with the flow and sleep WHENEVER you can!)
πŸ‘‰ changes in your feelings as you navigate extended family who all want to hold and kiss your baby 24/7 πŸ‘΅πŸ§“
πŸ‘‰ changes in your own body - swollen and leaking breasts, bleeding down below, possibly a throbbing abdominal scar to protect too...

All of this can leave a new mom and dad feeling very vulnerable and fragile! Take care of yourselves, go easy... keep life simple and slow in those first few weeks. You can do this + We are here for you!

We always say that labour is like an old diesel tractor engine that struggles to start. The key is cranked and the starter motor is turning over, but the full power and intensity of the engine takes time to catch on! Many women do not realize this, and will rush to the hospital when things are not quite established yet (1-3cm).

Unless your water has broken, stay where you are most comfortable for as long as possible. Why? To allow your extremely shy labour hormones to kick in and take hold πŸ‘Œ The thing is, they tend to hide away when we are in strange, bright and different environments like the hospital labour ward, which then prolongs that starter motor phase, continually turning over but not catching on... So make sure you're comfy, warm, happy and relaxed in the early stages to give those shy hormones the best chance to work πŸ˜€

When your contractions are longer, stronger and much closer together, then you know that your engine has officially caught hold and is now running loud and strong! That is the time to go to hospital, because there is no stopping that diesel engine now πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘πŸ˜Ž

Why is it so important to wash your Bub’s face and hair first before their body??
1. Face first for hygiene. Washing your Bub’s face first ensures you are using clean water so that there is less chance of infection occurring in the eyes and also that you are not using water that is saturated with bath products which could irritate the delicate facial skin.
2. Hair first for body heat. Washing and then drying Bub’s hair first helps them to retain body heat instead of continuing the bath with wet hair.
We teach all of these things and more in our comprehensive Baby 101 Class of our Antenatal Course as well as in private Baby Prep Consults πŸ’—

Breastfeeding Woes? Seek Support, Mama!
Breastfeeding is often portrayed as a beautiful bonding experience between Mum and baby. But the reality is, it can be challenging & overwhelming, leaving many Mums feeling discouraged & defeated. If you're struggling with breastfeeding, don't suffer in silence! Seeking support can make all the difference in your breastfeeding journey.
Reach out to a Lactation Consultant who are trained professionals providing expert guidance & support, helping with issues like latching, low milk supply, sore ni***es & more.
Join a breastfeeding or Mum's support group. Connecting with other Mums who are going through similar challenges can be incredibly empowering.
Involve your partner or support person. Breastfeeding is not just a Mum's job; it's a team effort. Involve your partner or a trusted support person in your breastfeeding journey. They can provide emotional support, help with household chores or older siblings, and offer encouragement during challenging moments.
Educate yourself. Knowledge is power when it comes to breastfeeding. Read up on breastfeeding techniques, positioning &common challenges. There are many reputable online resources, books & articles available that can provide valuable information & tips to overcome breastfeeding hurdles.
Remember, breastfeeding is a learned skill that takes time & practice for both you & your Bub. It's okay to ask for help and seek support when needed. You are not alone & there is no shame in facing challenges with breastfeeding. With the right support, you can overcome these obstacles & enjoy a successful breastfeeding journey with your baby. Keep going, mama!
