Domaine Des Dieux

Domaine Des Dieux

We are a boutique wine farm in the Hemel-en-Aarde, that produce high quality award winning wines and The dream is now a reality.

Domaine des Dieux - Place of the Gods - began as a dream, after many visits to Burgundy and a love that developed for Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Champagne. In 2002 we bought a small 28 ha farm, nestled in the foothills of the highest mountain peak in the Hemel-en-Aarde - Babylonstoren, and made sure it lent itself to the growing of premium Pinot noir and Chardonnay, amongst other cultivars that we

We’re delighted to bring you more sparkling insights into the world of Cap Classique. Join the conversation with Domaine des Dieux as we explore the essential dos and don’ts, uncover enchanting myths, and share fascinating stories that celebrate the beauty of this style.

Our first insight; should Cap Classique be stored upright in the fridge? Though commonly thought so, we suggest laying it gently on its side in a temperature-controlled space, such as a wine fridge, to preserve its delicate qualities and ensure a perfect pour every time.

A match made in dessert heaven - Melktert & Rose of Sharon 🥂

Our current vintage, the 2013 Rose of Sharon, has spent significant time ageing on the lees, enhancing its complexity before it reaches your glass. The delicate creaminess of the tart, with its hint of cinnamon and butter crust meets the bright berry notes and lively bubbles of the Rose of Sharon. Creating the perfect balance of light, airy bubbles and rich, comforting flavours.

We hope this pairing inspires you to try new flavours. Whether you prefer to pair creamy with fruity, soft with bubbly, simply enjoy the wine in the way we intended - just as you like.

Who says Cap Classique can’t pair with Chakalaka? 🥂

This Heritage week, we are celebrating all things local that are lekker - there’s a reason Cao Classique Day and Heritage Day are both celebrated in September. Cap Classique often carries the perception of being saved for special occasions - but we believe that bubbles are meant to be enjoyed in everyday life.

That’s why we suggest 2 of our leading ladies as a pairing for a South African staple such as Chakalaka. We’ve got the 2012 Anne Louise Blanc de Blancs and the 2020 Lady Ashleigh Blanc de Noir as the perfect pairing. Whether you like it spicy or not, either Cap Classique will make it a match made in heaven.

The Lady Ashleigh is an iconic match for spicy chakalaka. Being relatively young, its fresh fruitiness complements the heat rather than amplifying it. The vibrancy works well with the heat and spice, cooling the palate and cutting through the intensity.

If you’re going mild, then Anna Louise is your girl! With over a decade of ageing, it’s evolved into a wine of great complexity and delicate structure. Expect notes of brioche, almonds, honey, and a richer mouthfeel from the extended ageing on the lees. While the acidity remains bright, it’s beautifully softened. Its complexity won’t be overshadowed by strong spices, allowing both the age of the wine and the heritage of the dish to shine.

We hope you’ll enjoy our Cap Classique with chakalaka this Heritage Week - afterall, it is a pairing that highlights the best of our local flavours.

If you’re after something with a little less effervescence, we still have a couple of Library Collection Chardonnay and Pinot Noir for sale through the link in our bio (that’s 6 different vintages of each in a case!)

Photos from Domaine Des Dieux's post 23/09/2024

At Domaine des Dieux, we’re honouring both South Africa’s Heritage and our own with a special glimpse into our library collection.

This is our story in a bottle — a taste of what has shaped us into the Cap Classique winery we are today. Because every great Cap Classique begins with a solid foundation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

To celebrate Heritage Week, we’re offering you the chance to walk down memory lane with Domaine des Dieux through six different vintages of Chardonnay or six different vintages of Pinot Noir.

These special cases can be purchased directly through the link in our bio.

Happy Heritage Week 🥂✨

Yesterday was International Cap Classique Day, and we couldn't think of a more appropriate time or occasion to celebrate it than with an exciting announcement.

We, at Domaine des Dieux, are unequivocally sure that our future lies in Cap Classique, the specialisation of it, the education around it and the passion behind producing it. So come 2025 we will be focussing on cementing ourselves as the home of Hemel-en-Aarde Cap Classique, a specialist Cap Classique house. Our newly renovated tasting room, once re-opened, will also be a haven for all things bubbly and we cannot wait to welcome guests to our immersive effervescent experience at 'maison de fines bulles,' our house of fine bubbles.

In the spirit of joyous effervescent, we have another little surprise for you. During this wonderful month of Spring and Cap Classique we will also launch 3 new Cap Classiques into our range, the Lady Ashleigh, GiGi and Claudia R.D.
Watch this space as we introduce these wonderful ladies to you, one by one.

Our dreams are big and ever growing, a perpetual journey that will see generations to come fulfilling the same thirsty mouths with exceptional Cap Classique. We as a family look forward to raising many glasses of Cap Classique with all the bubbly lovers out there.

Last pick of the 2024 for harvest for us at Domaine des Dieux 🍇🍷 this is our small block of Mourvèdre which always tends to be the last varietal to ripen up. Year after year, it’s always an exciting one to harvest because we know things are starting to finally wrap up!

The fruit is looking amazing, it held up nicely despite the heat we had leading up to harvest and hardly any sorting needed to be done in the vineyard. We couldn’t have asked for a more relaxed way to end off the harvest

This Mourvèdre is destined for our Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache Rhone blend and will contribute 15 to 20 percent of the blend. It gives the backbone and structure to the wine and a bit of tannin whereas the Grenache is the fruit side that brightens up the blend
