My overwhelming feeling today is that I am blessed ๐
I love my work
I have great friends
I love and like my daughters
I have son in laws I'm glad are now family
I've been happily married for 32 years to Lauren ...
As I reflect on my 60 years to date, I thought I would share 60 happy memories.
Some of them are big and significant,
like walking my daughters down the aisle with no regrets,
and some are small,
like taking my socks out of my drawer and knowing they are folded in pairs and not inside out.
Making yourself a Happy Memories list is a worthwhile exercise indeed.
I got I got the idea from the book 'All it takes is a goal' by Jon Acuff.

I reckon by now I have a lot of character ๐
In late 2018 I bought my ActionCoach Business Coaching franchise,
I thought I would be back to my previous earnings in 6 months,
I never thought it would be so hard to gain traction,
The gains did not come easily for me,
It was tough going for a long time
BUT
I chose to:
Dig hard & stay the course
Have discipline and consistency
Never doubt that I would succeed
Keep believing in myself and my vision
Concentrate on adding value to my clients
And sure enough, in time,
my business grew,
slowly but surely,
to the point where I won the Breakout Coach of the year last year
and
Lauren, my wife resigned as a teacher and joined me in my business in January.
The last 5 and a half years have been a character forming season indeed.
Today I can think of nothing else I would rather be doing. I am operating in my sweet spot and love adding value to my clients and their businesses through business coaching.
I am blessed indeed.

I recently heard the phrase
'Your reality is what you allow it to be'
It got me thinking ...
as Business Owners,
if you want the reality of a successful business,
then you need to become someone who takes ACTION.
- If you have a plan, you need to take ACTION and execute on the plan,
- if unexpected events happen, you need to recalibrate and take ACTION.
- If you have gained new knowledge and insights through reading a book, you need to take ACTION and implement at least one thing that you have learned.
One of my favourite quotes from Brad Sugars, the founder of ActionCoach is
"Where you'll be in five years depends on
the books you read
the people you associate with
and the ACTIONS you take!"

you have an activity problem!
Iโve seen this in companies of R1 mil, R10 mil and R100 mil turnover.
๐ฌ When you are running your own company, no matter what size your turnover is, it is too easy to be driven by the endless operational demands you face.
๐ฌ Too easy to get sucked into working long hours IN the business.
In order to correctly prioritise for your team,
you need to take yourself out of the frenzy of operational activity.
You need to step back, and with the perspective that provides,
prioritise, set the most important goals and activities for your company to focus on.
Hats off to my clients who have the discipline to do exactly that.
On Wed 21st Feb they will be taking a full day out of their business to review the last quarter, set 3 goals for the next quarter and develop a 90 day Actiopn Plan to reach their goals.

So often I hear the following excuse from business owners.
โI donโt have time to readโ
โ Sorry, but I donโt buy that.
Listening to a book on the likes of Audible costs no additional time.

How does that saying go?

I had a moment at the start of one of my coaching session last week...
I always start my coaching sessions with my client and myself doing a WIFLE.
What's a WIFLE?

We don't plan what to say, the emphasis is on how we feel at that moment.
It helps both of us ground ourselves and get some insight into how the other person has arrived at the coaching session.
Anyway when it was my turn I found myself saying I had had an awesome ten day holiday in Mozambique with great friends (ten day friends, not ten hours or ten minute friends ๐). It was a great relaxing time and I was feeling recharged.
And
I was feeling very excited about being back at work!
And I thought
WOW!!!
Isn't that awesome!
I'm in a really great spot.
Being able to go on holiday with great friends, and relax without stressing about my work,
and come back excited to get stuck in to my work.
I am blessed!
Chapter 2 - Choices
I'm busy reading The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy.
In chapter 2 he hits hard by saying
"You alone are responsible for what you do or don't do, or how you respond to what's done to you."
Ouch!
It's too easy as a business owner if things are not working out how you want them to, to make excuses e.g. I'm so busy, there is so much to do, or blame the economy, the government, customers ...
My challenge to you today ...
What are you NOT doing consistently in your business that you know will make a difference if you did it?
Time to take extreme ownership!
Make the choice to take that action today.
Just start.
You won't regret it.
As Darren says "... you make your choices, and then your choices make you. Every decision, no matter how slight, alters the trajectory of your life ..."

What a great start to December after a very busy last 6 weeks on the work and home front which included:

๐ Adopting a puppy from Kitty and Puppy Haven
๐Lauren, my wife, wrapping up 16 years of teaching at Hatfield Christian School (Canโt wait for her to start working with me in January)
๐ Attending the BNI Tshwane Regional Team breakaway weekend
๐ Tamsyn my youngest daughter writing Matric Finals AND getting her drivers licence
๐ Prepping and running my 90 Day Action Plan GrowthClub with 20 of my clients
A very busy, productive and satisfying month and a half!!!

Why should they have all the fun?
So we are here chilling for the next ten days.
And thanks to Zoom Iโm able to do some of my coaching from here.
Very chuffed to have received the Breakout Coach of the year award at our recent Action COACH Southern Africa conference
The award is for the coach whose coaching business grew the most the last 12 months compared to the previous 12 months.
Mine grew 48% which is great as it means I am impacting increasingly more business owners, their teams and families.
My vision is to create thriving families by changing the way business owners think and act in their business.
I'm pleased to share that as a result of the growth, my wife Lauren Hofmeyr is joining my business in January as Membership Coordinator to provide admin and logistics support, allowing me to focus my time on coaching my clients and adding value to my network.
I can't wait for this next season!!!
Onwards and upwards!!!
Today one year ago I walked my daughter Erin down the aisle to marry Fabio De Gouveia.
One of the most emotional and proudest days of my life.
Blessed to walk Erin down the aisle with no regrets about spending too much time on my business and not enough time with her.
Blessed to be happily married for 31 years to the love of my life, Lauren.
Blessed to have a Thriving Family.

Creating a Thriving Family requires you to be INTENTIONAL in your thoughts, words and actions.
Building a successful business also requires you to be INTENTIONAL in your thoughts, words and actions.

๐คฆโโ๏ธ Have you ever slipped up and disappointed someone?
I did this last week ๐ฌ
And it left a horrible feeling in my stomach.
I have high standards when it comes to relationships, and on this instance I dropped the ball.
OUCH!
Am I disappointed with myself for slipping up.
Absolutely!
But, there are no if's in history,
Beating myself up about where I slipped up is not going to do anything for myself or the other person.
Thanks goodness at 59 I'm a lot more mature than I was when I was at 19.
My younger self would have dived into
- making excuses
- denying that it was a problem
- looking to blame the other person, looking for something they had done wrong.
The problem with this approach is that it means you are powerless to make the situation better.
So what did I do?
- Immediately took responsibility for my slipup
- Apologised
- Communicated that the relationship was important to me
- Committed to step up
- Got busy with doing what I had committed to
Whilst this is not a situation that I wanted to happen, it's provided me with the following:
- An opportunity to learn - look at the circumstances and put things in place to minimise the chances of it happening again.
- it's keeping me humble.
- On the plus side our relationship was important enough to the other person that they had the courage to call me out.
Open and honest communication is so important in any relationship, no matter the context.
None of use are perfect, but how we respond when we slip up can make or break a relationship, whether that is with a life partner, friend, client, coworker, supplier ...
