Dr Kara Fitzgerald has created a program called Younger You from the research she did on reversing biological age. In just eight weeks, participants decreased their biological age by 3 and a half years, just by eating well, prioritising good sleep and incorporating stress reduction.

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that Younger You is the most accessible longevity program ever created. It doesn't rely on risky biohacking, it doesn't rely on expensive supplements, and it doesn't ask for extreme dietary restrictions.

It's a food-forward approach that relies on selecting epinutrient-rich foods. That is, the program identifies the foods that can beneficially impact the expression of your DNA. Many of those will be familiar to you, but some are overlooked (rosemary happens to be an absolute superstar).

So next time you're at the store, grab one of these items and treat your DNA to a little TLC:

1. Green Tea
2. Turmeric
3. Blueberries
4. Cruciferous Vegetables
5. Beets

This is a great opportunity! This comprehensive test will tell you in which areas you are genetically vulnerable, and give you actionable steps to decrease your risk of, for example, cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, weight gain / obesity, bone loss, sports injuries, and much more.

Higher mushroom consumption was associated with a lower incidence of cancer. People with the highest intake had 80% less incidence of cancer of any type, and 65% less incidence of breast cancer.
Mushrooms are rich in bioactive compounds, including phytochemicals (plant chemicals such as flavonoids and carotenoids), fiber, selenium, vitamins, and antioxidants, such as ergothioneine and glutathione, which may help prevent cancer.

We know that type 2 diabetes accelerates biological age in humans. Now, this first-of-its-kind study shows that rapid aging can be handed down to offspring, too!

A recent mouse study found that maternal diabetes leads to premature aging of neural tissue in the fetus and pups, leading to neural tube defects. This premature aging, or senescence, is initiated by epigenetic changes in neurogenesis.

The researchers believe this is the mechanism behind the increased incidence of congenital disabilities in mothers with diabetes. The good news is that diet and lifestyle interventions can significantly impact both blood sugar regulation and epigenetic aging. In fact, this study gives us yet another reason to lean on the power of personalized nutrition for longer, healthier lives.

This new map is the basis of Functional Medicine. It is a rich new method, a fundamental change in our thinking, a whole different paradigm. It changes our approach to the very way we think about illness and the human body and brain.⁣

You and the person sitting next to you could both have chronic symptoms we call a “headache,” but maybe your pain is caused by drinking too much wine every night, while his pain is the result of being hit on the head with the empty bottle every night. As you can imagine, these two chronic headaches can’t be cured in the same way, because their root causes are different. But that approach is exactly the one the current medical community is taking!⁣

The truth is that you can’t treat mental illness effectively by using ONLY drugs or psychotherapy. You need to treat the body, because the body and brain are one interconnected system. ⁣

What you do to your body, you do to your brain. Treat your body and you treat your brain. ONLY when you fix your body will you fix your broken brain.⁣

Quercetin is a powerful methylation adaptogen known to epigenetically enhance BRCA1 expression (potentially reducing the risk of breast cancer). It's also a known antihistamine, can help lower cholesterol and protect against viruses, and it is a senolytic compound, too, meaning it helps ward off old age.

If you suffer with skin conditions such as skin allergies, dermatitis, eczema or hives, the issue is more than skin deep. Like a mirror, the state of your skin on the outside is a reflection of how well your body is functioning on the inside.

A natural health practitioner can help you look below the surface to explore the many factors that may be triggering your skin condition or making it worse, such as:

• Environmental allergens
• Food allergies and intolerances
• Immune reactivity
• Gut dysfunction
• Microbiome imbalances
• Poor detoxification and elimination
• Stress and poor sleep
• Nutritional deficiencies

By improving how each body system functions, you can feel healthier on the inside and your skin will look healthier on the outside. Additionally, herbs and nutrients can provide symptomatic relief, reducing redness, itching and swelling, and promote skin healing.

Research studies have confirmed a positive connection between high levels of psychological stress and skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, eczema, and chronic hives. Stress may trigger or aggravate allergic disease, including those affecting your skin.

In people with atopic dermatitis, stress can impair reactivity of the body’s stress response system, known as the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis. It can also lead to inflammation and changes in immune function, tipping the body towards a more reactive, allergic state.

The skin’s response to stress is complex and involves a wide network of immune cells, hormones, and neurotransmitters. These include stress hormones such as cortisol and mast cells which play a central role in allergy.
Stress hormones cause mast cells to release inflammatory mediators such as histamine which fuel the allergic response and aggravate symptoms.

Actively managing stress may help improve your skin condition, reducing severity and resulting in fewer flareups. Talk to your practitioner today about herbal and nutritional options to get on top of your skin condition and help you manage stress better.

If you have chronic health symptoms and are repeatedly told your lab tests are normal, you should know it takes the average autoimmune patient as many as 10 years and up to 20 doctors before they are screened for autoimmunity.

Even if you know you have autoimmunity, it often does not change your treatment.

The autoimmune patient must self-educate. This will ensure you know how to navigate the health care system, understand the limitations of both standard and alternative health care, understand the role of health insurance, and be able to intelligently choose your support team.

There is widespread lack of education and misinformation when it comes to autoimmune research. Pursuing your own education from qualified sources prevents the feelings of hopelessness and despair that affect so many patients.

If someone says they can cure your autoimmunity, or that a single-remedy approach (heavy metal detox, diet, leaky gut repair, supplements, parasite cleanse, a "challenge," medication, etc.) will resolve your autoimmunity, then you know they don't understand the complexity and individuality of autoimmunity.

When you learn about autoimmunity, what is realistic in terms of outcome, and how to manage your immune system, you can regain your balance, resilience, and power.

Join me in this talk and Q&A to learn how to navigate health care when you have symptoms you think may be autoimmune, or if you already know you have autoimmunity. Sign up to ask questions inside the Zoom webinar: https://rfr.bz/f2cefsb
