ZABS PARTICIPATES AT THE 30TH ARSO GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN ABUJA, NIGERIA

ZABS Executive Director Mr Nathan Sing'ambwa has today, 17th June, 2024 chaired the 13th ARSO Champions meeting which is part of the 30th General Assembly Events taking place in Abuja, Nigeria from 17th to 21st June, 2024. Mr. Sing’ambwa who is Chairperson of the ARSO Champions is attending the events together with Director Technical Services Mrs Belinda Soko Kancheya. The theme for the 30th ARSO General Assembly is “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century- building a quality culture - One market-one standard”. The Theme is based on the African Union declaration of the year 2024 as the "Year of Education", and on the theme: “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa”, and calling on governments and Stakeholders to "accelerate progress towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4)".
The role of ARSO Champions is to strengthen membership mobilization, awareness creation, participation in technical work towards the promotion and implementation of harmonised African Standards.
The African Organisation for Standardisation (ARSO) has the principal mandate to harmonise African Standards, Conformity Assessment & Procedures in order to reduce Technical Barriers to trade and therefore promote Intra- African and International trade. To date over 1,800 standards have been harmonised and/or endorsed as part of the drive to contribute to trade facilitation for the continent, more so in support of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA).

Big Congratulations ZABS Laboratories for maintaining Accreditation!

This afternoon ZABS Management joined the Laboratory Section to celebrate the maintenance of Accreditation for the ZABS testing laboratories after the assessment by Southern African Development Community Accreditation Service (SADCAS). The Executive Director Mr. Nathan Sing`ambwa congratulated the Laboratory section and reiterated management`s commitment to ensuring that the Laboratories are well supported to operate effectively and efficiently while maintaining international standards in order for clients to continue accessing credible and efficient testing services.
The ZABS laboratories are accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 standard by the Southern African Development Community Accreditation Service (SADCAS). The ISO/IEC 17025 General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories is the main standard used by testing and calibration laboratories in order to be deemed technically competent.

This accreditation ensures that the test results produced by ZABS Laboratories meet international standards of accuracy and reliability. Therefore, you can trust ZABS to deliver precise and trustworthy results for your testing needs.

ZABS – SAZ SIGN MoU
The Zambia Bureau of Standards (ZABS) and the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) this afternoon signed an MoU at the on-going Standardization and Business Leaders’ Conference in Victoria Falls Town in Zimbabwe. Officiating during the event, the Minister of Industry and Commerce in Zimbabwe Hon. Ngobizitha M. Ndlovu, and His Excellency, the Zambian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr. Derrick Livune affirmed the MoU and underscored the significance of the two institutions, ZABS and SAZ, to work together to help eliminate technical barriers to trade in order to allow for smooth trade between Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Speaking after the signing Ceremony, the ZABS Board Chairperson Mr. Mbobe C Nyondo stated that MoU is crucial to enhance trade facilitation between Zambia and Zimbabwe as it will provide a framework for applying uniform standards and procedures for the inspection and testing of goods traded between the two Countries.
The SAZ Board Chairperson Mrs Rose Mpofu also further disclosed that MoU will enhance mutual recognition of the ZABS and SAZ certification marks for products and services of interest once the certification schemes are harmonised in accordance with international best practices and peer evaluation mechanisms as agreed upon by the two standards institution.

SAZ – ZABS Standardization and Business Leaders’ Conference ON!
The Standardization and Business Leaders’ Conference has kick-started at the Elephant Hills Hotel in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. The Conference is being co-hosted by the Standards Association of Zimbabwe (SAZ) and the Zambia Bureaus of standards. The programme will run from Wednesday, 29th May to Saturday, 1 June,2024. The conference is being hosted under the theme: “Standardization Revolution: Transforming Industry and Consumer Thinking for Sustainable Development.”
Congratulations to COCA COLA BEVERAGES, ZAMEFA, ZAFFICO, and STRONGPAK for being part of the Conference.
Over 100 delegates from various organizations are expected to attend the conference.
