It's been fantastic to welcome over 300 students from Italy and Russia to Dubai Knowledge Park across the last month as part of our Summer Study Camp and English Camp programmes.

Our tailored camps are crafted to provide students with an immersive experience, gaining invaluable insights beyond textbook learning and expanding their global perspective. Our Kickstart programme at MDX Dubai allows school students to immerse themselves into life at university, with taster sessions in our state-of-the-art labs, campus tours led by our current students, and the chance to meet our Admissions Team and ask any questions they might have about their next steps! In collaboration with our global campuses in London and Mauritius, the MDXcelerator 2024 event concluded with the grand finale last Tuesday 16 July. Organised by the Middlesex Innovation Hub (MIH) and Careers and Employability Services (CES), the MDXcelerator is a unique business start-up support programme at Middlesex University that helps students and recent graduates turn their business ideas into reality, offering 1-1 mentoring, workshops, online resources and the chance to pitch for a cash prize.

We are pleased to announce that Vansh Mohan, third year BEng Honours Computer Systems Engineering student at MDX Dubai, emerged victorious winning the top award and seed funding of £3,000 for his project 'The Skills Forge'. Congratulations Vansh!

With the summer holidays already in full swing for our students, this time of year brings lots of celebration but also bittersweet feelings at the end of another great academic year. On 2 July, our Computer Informatics and Engineering department held a celebration for our third year students from the January cohort, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to bid a heartfelt goodbye to the graduating class. Faculty members Dr Fehmida Hussain, Dr Chinnu George and Engie Bashir coordinated the event.

One of the students shared their experiences from the event "The farewell event exceeded our expectations and left us with fond memories to cherish as we embark on our new journeys". Another student highlighted "The games were a lot of fun and really brought everyone together. It was a perfect way to end our time here at University".

Sports Performance Analysis (SPA) is the application of science and tech to boost athletic performance, crucial for athlethes, coaches and teams aiming to gain that extra edge in today's competitive sports landscape. Middlesex University Dubai proudly formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Emirates Park Zoo & Resort (EPZR) on 2nd July 2024. The MOU, signed by Dr Waleed Shaaban, CEO of EPZR, and Professor Cedwyn Fernandes, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University and Director at Middlesex University Dubai, underscores a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and academic excellence.

This partnership aims to explore opportunities in areas of mutual interest, particularly in enhancing environmental, biodiversity, and wildlife education, research, and conservation. Additionally, the MoU will facilitate stronger ties for joint events, guest lectures, and student internships.

Dr Waleed Shaaban, expressed his excitement about the partnership: “As we embark on this collaborative journey with MDX Dubai, our shared vision is to forge new paths in research and conservation. Through joint initiatives, such as our ongoing 'Learning in the Educational Bee Experience Programme', we aim to advance scientific knowledge and proof of what we do in education conservation. Together, EPZR and MDX Dubai can build capacity in wildlife research, foster community engagement, and promote conservation based on scientific approaches ensuring a better future for wildlife and our planet”.

Professor Cedwyn Fernandes also highlighted the synergy between the two institutions: “There is a significant synergy between MDX Dubai and EPZR in the areas of environmental conservation, research, and education. This collaboration underscores the critical role of the youth in fostering environmental and biodiversity protection, empowering them to lead initiatives that ensure the sustainability of our natural resources for future generations”.

Another day done, MDX Summer Camp Week 1 is nearly over! ☀️🌴

Today was all about creativity, as we spent the day brainstorming ideas for new products, creating our very own summer journals and expressing creativity through movement, song and memories! To finish off the day, we kicked back with a music jam session in the Dance Studio, featuring a special guest performance & workshop from the MDX Dance Club 🕺🎶

Day 3 of MDX Summer Camp complete, we’re already halfway through 🚀

Today we learned about some of the essential skills needed for university students, time management and managing money! After a stretching session led by Coach Farhan in the MDX Dance Studio, we finished the day with a visit to the UAE’s largest theme and amusement park in the UAE, IMG World! 🎢🎪

Day 2 of Summer Camp was a blast!

We learned all about Ethics & Law, got an insight into the MDX Library and how to find information for assignments, and got our brains thinking with an introduction to attachment theory. Our campers also developed their collaboration skills with an interactive team-building workshop on leadership 🗣️
