Ovarian fibromatosis is a benign condition affecting mostly young patients that may cause pelvic pain, menstrual abnormalities and sometimes virilization.
Ovarian fibromatosis is characterized by a proliferation of collagen-producing spindle cells surrounding normal ovarian structures causing thickening of the superficial cortex and enlargement of the o***y.
The “black garland” appearance of the cortex with preservation of a normal, central ovarian parenchyma helps distinguish this benign condition from other fibrotic lesions of the o***y.

Meet Dr. Abi Khalil
Elias D. Abi Khalil, MD is an Assistant professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Balamand University School of medicine. He currently practices OBGYN at Saint George University Hospital medical center.
He previously completed a two year fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery (MIGS) certified by the American Association of Laparoscopic Gynecologist (AAGL), at The George Washington University Medical Faculty Associates. He stayed on as Faculty for a year after finishing his fellowship during which he took care of a wide variety of patient with obstetrics and gynecologic conditions. Dr. Abi Khalil completed his undergraduate medical training at the American University of Beirut. He went on to excel during his four-year residency at The George Washington University, where he received multiple awards for excellence in endoscopic surgery, including the prestigious AAGL award for excellence in endoscopic surgery. Dr. Abi Khalil is a published author with more than 20 peer-reviewed publications, with a particular interest in fibroids, endometriosis, and minimally invasive gynecologic procedures.
He is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG), and a member of the American Association of Laparoscopic Gynecologists.
Dr. Abi Khalil offers his patients a wide range of gynecologic services, including treatment of menstrual disorders and fibroids, advanced gynecologic surgery, treatment of endometriosis and pelvic pain, and management of pelvic organ prolapse. He is an expert in minimally invasive approach including laparoscopy, robotic surgery and hysteroscopy. He also offers many office-based procedures including hysteroscopy, LEEP, colposcopy. Dr Abi Khalil is also an excellent Obstetrician providing patient-centered, evidence-based obstetrics care for his patients and treating various high-risk conditions during pregnancy.
