60 years ago (1964) today, the biggest band in the world were met by an estimated 300,000 people that lined the streets from Adelaide Airport to the Adelaide Town Hall to welcome The Beatles ahead of their performances at Wayville’s Centennial Hall.

The Adelaide Town Hall will celebrate 60 years since The Beatles’ visit to Adelaide in June with a curated display, free community concert, book launch and author talk. For more information, visit the link below 👇

Late in Term 1 I joined the Raiise team at Cabra Dominican College.

The students were studying the impact of family and domestic violence on the health and wellbeing of victim survivors, and were keen to find out more about organisations and service providers that work in this sector.

If you are a school or sporting club and would like to learn more about what Raiise can do for you and your team/students/staff, visit their website below 👇

It was great to join Ross and Charlotte from Raiise and speak with the Adelaide 36ers about the impacts of family and domestic violence and how it all starts with gender inequality.

Thanks to all of the staff in particular Grant Kelley, Nic Barbato and Helen Hobbins for committing the 36ers to the Raiise program.

Unnecessary bureaucratic processes result in increased delays, costs and inefficiencies.
This was my take on the Council’s elected body (not staff) potentially being consulted on building works exemptions. Under current legislation, a designated Council staff member assesses and approves such exemptions. I want that process to stay as is and not become an opportunity for elected members to intervene or micromanage.
This is of course my personal view and Council last night did not agree with it.

After 7 years in the public sector, initially with Renewal SA and then the SA Housing Authority, I am hanging up this pass! 👨🏻‍💻

It all started with a $4.4m public housing refurbishment project which turned into a $30m asset renewal program that included two and three storey walk-up-flats. 🏚️

More recently I’ve been working alongside community housing providers to facilitate redevelopment and renewal of social and affordable housing assets. 🏘️

Australia, particularly South Australia, has been and continues to experience a housing crisis. A challenge that many, including my former public sector colleagues, continue to work on in order to resolve. But they say “challenges bring about opportunities” so I’m staying in the social and affordable housing sector to work toward a future with more affordable and adequate housing for all, in particular our vulnerable cohort. 🏗️

Great to be back at Saint Ignatius' College Adelaide senior campus for a chat with students. Thanks to their teachers and leadership team for allowing me to have some important conversations about healthy relationships and the prevention of family and domestic violence.

Apologies for my post earlier about daylight savings. It was supposed to be a scheduled post for next weekend but I clicked on the wrong button 🤦🏻‍♂️

The people you bump into at a Women Lawyers’ Association of SA event. Great to catch up with Meredith Dickson who was my mum’s family court barrister (and an absolute legend!)

Nowadays she is a judge at the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (and still a gem!)

Big birthday shout out to my mum Zahra. Whilst this day also marks the day of the incident that took her life, I’d like to focus on the happy memories. I probably would have jokingly called her “old” and may have jokingly given her retirement village pamphlets as a subtle reminder! My mum and I had a similar sense of humour - we laughed a lot and didn’t take life very seriously. Here is to 14 years without your physical presence and you having a laugh with some familiar faces who are no longer with us 💜
