ACCESSIBLE FILM STUDIES PROGRAM WITH CDU FOR FREE “COME AND TRY” TASTER WORKSHOP IN DARWIN

Bus Stop Films is excited to announce a partnership with Charles Darwin University's (CDU) Academy of the Arts to deliver their Accessible Film Studies Program in Darwin.

NETFLIX announce release of much anticipated series “TERRITORY”

Netflix has announced the release of "TERRITORY” which will debut on our screens October 24.

Filmed in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, filmed with special permission from the Traditional Owners and across the vastness of Tipperary Station the series follows the fight for power in the remote and unforgiving Australian outback when the world’s largest cattle station is left without an apparent heir.

The series features a stellar cast including Anna Torv (The Newsreader, The Last of Us), Michael Dorman (For All Mankind, Patriot) and Robert Taylor (Longmire, The Newsreader), Sam Corlett (Vikings: Valhalla, The Dry), Sara Wiseman (Kingdom of the Planet of Apes, High Country), Dan Wyllie (Love My Way, The Veil) and Clarence Ryan (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Mystery Road Origin).

This ambitious series was supported by Screen Territory through the Production Attraction Incentive Program (PAIP) and will showcase the Territory in all its splendour to Netflix audiences around the globe. The series also received support from the South Australian Film Corporation.

PRIME VIDEO GLOBAL HIT DEADLOCH SEASON TWO HEADED TO THE TOP END

We are thrilled to announce that Prime Video, Guesswork Television, OK Great Productions, and Screen Territory are bringing the second season of the award-winning global hit, Deadloch, to the Top End!

This major screen production has been facilitated through the Production Attraction Incentive Program (PAIP), providing another significant production to our local screen industry and cementing the Northern Territory as an exicting and attracting filming location.
Territory screen professionals will have the opportunity to collaborate with some of the industry’s best on Deadloch Season 2, gaining invaluable employment, experience and professional development opportunities.

Season Two sees the return of Kate Box and Madeleine Sami as Dulcie Collins and Eddie Redcliffe. This time, the detective duo is in Darwin investigating the death of Eddie’s former policing partner, Bushy. However, when the bodies of two Top End icons are discovered in Eddie’s hometown, they find themselves in the midst of a new, more challenging investigation.

Deadloch Season 2 builds on the massive amounts of production activity in the Territory this year and we look forward to welcoming the production to the NT!

This week we celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as part of week. This year the theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud’.
The theme honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. You can support and get to know your local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander communities through activities and events held across the NT.

SCREEN TERRITORY PARTICIPATES IN PRIDE MONTH “BUBBLES AND BUSINESS” EVENT

Last week, Pride in Diversity partnered with Darwin Innovation Hub, the Northern Territory Government, Hays, and the Darwin Pride Festival for the inaugural Northern Territory workplace LGBTQ+ inclusion networking event, aptly named "Bubbles and Business," showcasing our unique Top End flair. We extend a huge thank you to the brilliant Chris Keely, Deputy Director of Pride Inclusion Programs at Pride In Diversity for involving Screen Territory in this terrific event!

“Bubbles and Business” was jointly chaired by Dr. Bhushan Joshi (Advocacy and Inclusion Officer for Top End Pride, Chair of GLADD), Alyce Schotte (Senior Relationship Manager at Pride in Diversity), and Screen Territory. Among the speakers was our very own Director of Screen Territory, Jennie Hughes, alongside Karen Leong, Head of Talent and DEI at Sportsbet, and Kimberley Barraza, who highlighted the great initiatives at Sportsbet led by their CEO, Barni Evans. The event also featured the inspiring Darwin Pride Ambassador 2024, Karan Nagrani.

At Screen Territory, we believe that diversity and inclusion are essential pillars of the screen industry. By fostering an environment where everyone feels welcome, safe, and valued, we not only enrich the stories we tell but also ensure that our productions reflect the true diversity of our society.

ABC AND AIDC INDIGENOUS DOCUMENTARY PLACEMENT PROGRAM 2024

Are you a mid-career Indigenous filmmaker interested in expanding your skills and experience in documentary and factual?
ABC Indigenous in partnership with AIDC - Australian International Documentary Conference are pleased to open applications for the Indigenous Documentary Placement program for 2024, with a submission deadline of 30 June 2024.

The Indigenous Documentary Placement is designed to provide one mid-career Indigenous practitioner with a unique opportunity to undertake a four-month paid placement with the ABC, Australia’s largest public broadcaster.

The successful applicant will be embedded in the ABC for a period of four months based in Sydney. The placement’s goal is to provide the practitioner with the opportunity to develop their skills in documentary and/or factual development and production within the context of a public broadcaster with a broader view towards creating employment pathways.

The placement will commence with the ABC in mid-August 2024. The successful candidate will receive an equivalent annual producer level salary of up to $40,000 per annum which equates to approximately $94,620 per annum for four months inclusive of statutory superannuation contributions. The participant will be contracted by the ABC.

Practitioners from all states are welcome to apply and may be eligible to seek additional relocation support from their relevant state or territory screen agency.

All Indigenous practitioners interested in the placement are invited to attend a virtual information session hosted by Kelrick Martin (Head of Indigenous, ABC) on Thursday 13 June, 11:00am-12:00pm AEST.

The information session will provide practitioners with an opportunity to learn more about the placement from ABC representatives, and to ask questions. Register your interest in the Information Session by emailing [email protected]

SPARK IS BACK FOR 2024 🎬

Three projects were announced as THE 2024 SPARK recipients today, all receiving $30,000 in Screen Territory funding to produce a 10-minute short film.

Acclaimed NT actor and emerging producer, Rarriwuy Hick joined us at the stunning Deckchair Cinema this morning to chat about her work on Samantha Laughton’s SPARK project, Fence.

Rarriwuy and Samantha join Emma Smith and Rebecca Parker in the 2024 SPARK Program, with all films to be showcased at the 2024 DIFF. The finished films will automatically be accepted into competition for the Best Short Film Award at the 2025 AACTA Awards.

Each filmmaker will gain access to additional support including high-end cameras and lens provided by Panavision, post-production and sound engineering from major company’s The Post Lounge and Trackdown Studios and a cinematographer mentor from AFTRS. Award-winning showrunner Greg Haddrick will Executive Produce all three productions.

SCREEN TERRITORY SUPPORTED FEATURE FILM “KANGAROO” HOPS INTO PRODUCTION IN ALICE SPRINGS

Screen Territory has supported "Kangaroo," a family comedy filming in Alice Springs starring Ryan Corr and Lily Whiteley. Corr plays Chris Masterman, an ex-TV personality stranded in an Outback town, where he befriends 11-year-old Charlie (Whiteley) as they rescue orphaned joeys, leading to life-changing experiences.

The film is being produced for STUDIOCANAL by Alice Springs based production company Brindle Films alongside Bunya Productions and Corr and Whiteley lead a bumper Australian cast that includes Deborah Mailman, Wayne Blair, Trisha Morton-Thomas, Rachel House, Brooke Satchwell, Ernie Dingo, Genevieve Lemon, Clarence Ryan, Rarriwuy Hick, Rick Donald, Emily Taheny, Bondi Lifeguard Ryan Clark, and Australian TV presenter Grant Denyer.

A troop of kangaroo joeys, currently in the care of the Alice Springs Kangaroo Sanctuary, will also make their feature film debut. The production is employing over 50 NT crew and will be show case Alice Springs and the beauty of the red centre to cinema audiences around the world!

“Kangaroo” is directed by Kate Woods and written by Harry Cripps with additional writing from Melina Marchetta, and further material from Danielle MacLean and Peta-Lee ColeManolis.

The film is also receiving funding support from Screen Australia and Screen NSW.

TOP END BUB COMMENCES PRODUCTION IN THE TOP END

“Top End Bub” is an Amazon Prime series and a spin-off of "Top End Wedding," starring Miranda Tapsell (The Sapphires, Redfern now, The Wishmas) and Gwilym Lee (The Great, Jamestown, Bohemian Rhapsody) as Lauren and Ned, now caring for Lauren's orphaned niece. Returning cast includes Ursula Yovich (Preppers, The Royal Hotel) and Huw Higginson (Total Control, The Artful Dodger) and sees the recent additions Brooke Satchwell (Kangaroo, The Twelve, Black Snow, Mr Inbetween), Guy Simon (Wakefield), Clarence Ryan (The Moogai, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Territorian Rob Collins (Limbo, Firebite, Total Control, RFDS) to the cast.

Directed by Christiaan Van Vuuren (A Sunburnt Chirstmas, Bondi Hipsters) and Territorian Shari Sebbens (The Moth Effect), and produced by Goalpost Pictures for ZDF and Amazon Prime Video, the series is currently filming in the Top End and will be premiering on Prime Video in 2025.

In support of building capacity and professional experience in the Northern Territory screen, in collaboration with Screen Australia and Goalpost Pictures, Screen Territory is thrilled to offer paid attachment opportunities across four vital departments:

- Assistant Director (AD) Department
- Make-up Department
- Camera Department
- Locations Department

Please note that all applications, who meet the Screen Territory Term of Trade eligibility criteria, will be assessed and selected by the production for suitability based on your application materials being:

- A CV of your training and work experience

- A statement no longer than 150 words explaining why this opportunity is vital for your career progression.

DON’T MISS OUT SUBMITTING TO THE SPARK SHORT FILM INITIATIVE 2024

The SPARK Short Film Initiative stands as a much-anticipated cornerstone in the Northern Territory (NT) screen industry’s calendar for professional development. As always, the SPARK Short Film Initiative is aimed at offering scaffolded support, access to best-in-field knowledge and equipment as a structured pathway for the career advancement of successful Northern Territorian participants.

For the 2024 edition of SPARK, the thematic focus of the initiative centres on the concept of ‘COURAGE'.

Three successful SPARK recipients will be provided with $30,000 in production funding to produce a 10-minute short film.

They will also have the opportunity to work with an experienced screen industry Story Development mentor, assigned an Executive Producer, be provided feedback from an experienced industry Editor. The films will also have access to the expertise of Trackdown, Rainfall Creations and The Post Lounge.

To further support the success of the selected films, each production will also be provided with $10,000 of equipment rental from Panavision Sydney one of the world's premier camera and lens suppliers for the film and TV industry. Panavision will also provide a technical and creative consultation prior to the principal photography of each successful film.
