Friday fun with learning in soooooo many ways at Alawa......

Our very enterprising students from Year 1 Robinson took absolute care to spread out all the coins and money notes they had been exploring in Maths this week. Their challenge was to work out exactly how much they had by sorting into matching coins, notes etc and then adding this together. All up they reconciled their coins and notes to advise they had $656.

Our older students had a fab time with Mr Horigan as Special Guest Kitchen Teacher today - yummy home made pies were enjoyed by all.

STEM Room fun and learning at Alawa.....
Over the past few weeks the students form 3/4 Gardner have had their turn designing, making and evaluating in the STEM Room. They shared their finished Darwin Landmarks with Ms Cartwright today and she was super impressed with their attention to detail, their creative thinking and innovative ideas for new landmarks, events and attractions for the Darwin area. Budding entrepreneurs for sure!

ATTENTION 5/6 Parents- The Happy Campers are on their way home!
After a quick stopover in Adelaide River for lunch, the campers have hit the road and are expected to be back at school between 3:15 - 3:30pm.

The happy campers arrived at the Katherine Outback Experience this afternoon, eager to make the most of their time there. Tom Curtain's show was a hit, as was the homemade pizza dinner. After a few rounds of spotlight, [an Alawa camp favourite], it is time for showers and bed, ready for another big day tomorrow.

Thank you to our parent volunteers and the US Marines who helped today. These events wouldn't be possible without the support of our community.
Well done to all of the students who competed today and gave it their all. The team spirit, encouragement and sportsmanship was commendable.

⭐PLAYGROUP ⭐

Don't forget playgroup is on again this Friday in the Preschool. 9:30 - 11:30am. All welcome! 😄

Check out what the play-groupers got up to last week!
Wow, What a busy playgroup we had on Friday! We have been seeing new faces every week. It was our farm visit this week and there was a whole tribe of us so I’m sure the farm animals were wondering who the noisy herd was that were heading their way but we were welcomed to the flock when we visited the chickens with our little bucket of seeds! The playgroupers (and chickens) were so excited for the handfuls of food to be sprinkled around and the little hands held out for happy beaks to peck, peck, peck! Then we went around to visit all of our farm friends to say ‘hello’ before heading back to the pre-school room for some outside play!

We had so much fun outside, playing on the slides, climbing and balancing like monkeys do, and making delicious sand pies in the sandpit for our parents and grandparents to eat! Yum yum! We went racing on the bike track and had a great time with the barnyard animals too. And of course we love getting to see our friends at pre-school, that always brightens our day!
This week we will do some cooking. Looking forward to seeing you there.
Miss Erin.

Year 4/5 Chamberlain have recently spent time in the STEM room creating museum artefacts . Students were given the task of choosing an Australian individual, group or event and researching how they impacted the growth and development of Australia. Using their research they then designed and created a museum artefact to depict their chosen person or event. At the end of their time in the STEM room 4/5 Chamberlain took Ms Cartwright on a tour of their museum and presented their work.

On Friday Alawa Primary School said an emotional farewell to Miss Yenni. At muster the students took the opportunity to thank Miss Yenni, who has been our Canteen Manager for many years, each week ensuring that there is delicious, nutritious food served to our students (everyone loves Miss Yenni's spaghetti bolognaise). Miss Yenni has also put in many hours of her time volunteering at Alawa over the years and as we all know nobody puts a raffle prize together like Yenni does. Thank you Miss Yenni, you will be missed.

Today 32 students from Years 4, 5 & 6 were excited to travel to Marrara and the The Gardens for AFL & Tennis Gala day.
A great day was had at the AFL gala day. All students displayed exceptional sportsmanship and played each game in great spirits. Students quickly improved throughout the day picking up key fundamental skills. A big thank you to Peter Fulton and Joey Frawley for their help keeping the students hydrated on a hot day.
Our tennis stars joined other schools in the Darwin region for Red Ball Tennis. Our students showed great sportsmanship and resilience as we had some of our students join a team with students from Wagaman. Alawa won their division and brought home the winners flag. A big thank you to Sam Jenner who volunteered to help for the day, it is amazing to see the Alawa parents and community get involved and help the school and students on days like these.
It was a wonderful day, and we should all be proud of the way the students represented the school.
