Famous architecture: Construction began on the leaning of the Tower of Pisa in 1173. Shifting soil destabilized the tower’s foundations. It began to lean by the time its builders got to the third story in 1178. Acredited architects were Bonanno Pisano and Gherardo din Gherardo.
