RT Architects
Ryan Thompson Architect RT Architects are residential design specialists that create spaces that enrich the everyday.
Based in Geelong and the Surf Coast, we revel in design challenges on both urban and coastal settings.
Much like the clients, the Geelong Townhouses have their similarities through layouts and finishes selections yet both remain unique and suited to the individual lifestyles the brothers live.

The Geelong Townhouses allowed for two homes on the one block for two brothers and their families. The townhouses allowed them to have their own space while also allowing both homes to select their own interior selections truly making the space their own.

Introducing the Geelong Townhouses, made up of robust and hardy materials creating low maintenance homes the clients could spend their time enjoying. On the front facade, the material differed, where timber and native planting were used to soften and blend into the elevation of the street.

Church House sees the church largely untouched, converting the main space into the kitchen/living area, leaving the features such as the timber ceiling and stained glass windows to remain intact. The extension adds a contemporary addition to the church consisting of the bedrooms, bathrooms and an additional living area.

Ballarat East House is a house in the suburbs that wants to connect to the remaining nature through the use of careful site analysis and material choice.
Image
The internal finishes of the East Geelong house were kept neutral to allow the timber raked ceiling to have all the attention, drawing eyes out to the garden, while letting all the glorious northern sunlight in.
Image
The East Geelong House required a modest extension with small adaptations to improve the functionality to the existing home. The extension included a new kitchen/living area that connected the family to the backyard, a laundry, a bathroom and a carport that could also be used for an undercover entertainment space.

At RT Architects we have the ability to design new builds or completely redesign existing homes but we also have the ability to create simple alterations and additions that help improve the function of a home and create spaces that suit the clients needs.
If you’ve been considering a renovation, we currently have some openings for new projects. Get in touch through our website, link in bio.

The Summer Trees Beach Shack was a renovation project that set out to revamp the existing spaces, including enclosing the ground floor to include additional bedrooms and second living, and creating more inviting spaces that gave greater connection to the incredible views of Lorne.

Belmont View House uses timber joinery, neutral colours, and textural internal bricks to bring warmth to the house. This allows the young family to actively live in the home without the fear of dirtying white walls!

Imagine getting up this morning and being able to cook some Sunday morning pancakes… or potentially some bacon and eggs, or an omelette maybe 🤤 in this wonderful kitchen then being able to stroll outside to the bbq area to eat it in this glorious sun and be tempted by a dip in the pool!

Connections between inside and out were so important for the Belmont View House where the backyard was replaced with a courtyard bringing light into the house and gave the rooms along the entire length of the house views of landscaped spaces.

The eaves becoming one with the wall created shade for Anglesea Beach House while maintaining an aesthetic the client wanted.

The hallway/stair void of Anglesea Beach House is such an important aspect to the design. It is used to separate bedrooms from living rooms, providing zoning and privacy. It is a space that helps to filter down light to the ground floor. It provides the opportunity to grow, the site required a two storey home and the brief required a place for the couple to enjoy retirement, so the space was designed for flexibility and has the ability to include a lift in the future

The Anglesea Beach House, is a house designed for the summer, through the location, orientation and colour palette. Black was used as a contrast to prove that this house was a year long house, and come retirement, the clients would be comfortable all year long.

At the Anglesea Beach, the timber was also used for the internals of the house to give the illusion of summer warmth all year long, while remaining low maintenance for the soon to be retired clients.

Nestled amongst the remnant coastal vegetation, the Anglesea Beach House set out on a mission to experience the vegetation at its different levels through the houses levels. On the first floor, the house sits amongst the canopy of the trees where the deck allows a closer interaction with the rustling leaves.

To take advantage of the site orientation, the facade was designed to work with the sun, where the first floor projects over the ground floor to provide shade and the timber form was designed to shade the windows on the first floor.

Smythesdale is a historic regional town with rich architectural context that needed to to be considered when integrating a contemporary commercial building.
The design response included a contemporary interpretation of traditional building elements, especially when viewed from the main street, which is controlled by a heritage overlay.
To learn more about the project, head to the link in our bio.

The Smythesdale Vet Clinic is the third of three purpose built clinics we completed between 2018-2021.
Each clinic includes: 3 consultations rooms, an operating theatre, radiology, pathology, recovery, reception staff facilities, parking and disability access (we know, vets have to do a lot!!)
Build
Smythesdale Vet is a new, purpose built veterinary clinic contributing to a growing network of regional clinics to accommodate an expanding client base for the Golden Plains Vet practice. However, during the build, the clinic was bought by Fur Life, meaning details like the signage originally designed for the clinic never came into fruition.
