Support created for YOU!
For instance, if an individual has always taken pride in preparing the family meal on a Sunday, being able to regain that ability can bring immense joy and a sense of accomplishment. To facilitate this, it is essential to identify the specific challenges they face. It could be difficulties with standing for extended periods, lack of upper limb control, issues with balance, or pacing themselves to prevent exhaustion.
Once the barriers are identified we can help support people by finding out what's stopping them and finding solutions that work for them. For example, if standing for long periods is an issue, utilizing a high chair or stool could allow the individual to sit while preparing ingredients or cooking. This simple adjustment can make a significant difference in enabling them to engage in the activity they enjoy.

Historically, people with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) have found it difficult to access timely diagnosis and treatment. Unfortunately this continues to be the case and is problematic with a condition where early intervention can significantly improve a personβs long term outcomes.
FND has historically been classified as a psychological disorder. This classification did not provide a wholistic approach to care as it ignored the changes in mobility and physical function. The current consensus is to classify it as a broader neurological disorder that can have both sensory and movement related components.
FND results in the improper functioning of the nervous system and how the brain and body send and receive signals. Both physical and psychological factors can cause functional symptoms which include a variety of physical, sensory and cognitive symptoms. Symptoms related to FND can mimic different neurological or vestibular issues (e.g. stroke, dystonia, dizziness, or movement disorder) and may vary widely.
It is common for a personβs symptoms to fluctuate greatly. People living with FND have found that because of this they feel that people (including professionals) are not believing them when they talk about their symptoms.
For people living with FND it is important to have a team of people that listen and support you.
Reach out to hear more about how we can assist with FND!
