What is Osteopathy? ✨

Osteopaths have a wholistic approach to health care, viewing the body as a unit and treating the whole person. We factor in lifestyle, diet, stress and psychosocial aspects when determining the appropriate treatment and management for each person.

A range of hands-on techniques, including joint articulation, soft tissue massage, dry needling, joint manipulation, stretching, and more may be used to alleviate pain, improve mobility, and enhance the body’s self-healing mechanisms ✨

Osteopathy has so many potential benefits that can vary between everyone ✨
We often hear our clients report improved mobility reduced pain and a quicker return to the activities they love!

Following on from yesterdays post we thought we’d make a seperate one outlining some of the many benefits an active and upright labour and birth can provide ✨

Massage guns ~ While massage guns may feel great there is a lack of evidence on how beneficial they really are.

They have been shown to be effective at preventing Delayed Onset of Muscle Soreness (DOMS) - the discomfort you get after exercise but there is little evidence to prove it as an effective tool for tissue healing.

Massage guns may have the potential to make your injury worse. The use of these devices on broken bones, sprains, strains and areas of swelling can further damage the tissue if they are used incorrectly. Delaying healing time and increasing pain levels.

It is important to do your research into the right massage gun before purchasing and important to consult a health care professional before its use.

Dry Needling ✨

Dry Needling involves the insertion of thin needles into trigger points within muscles and is used to help stimulate the tissue healing process. The primary objective of Dry Needling is to release tension, improve blood flow, and promote the body’s natural ability to heal.

Trigger points or tightened bands of tissue within a muscle often result from injuries, overuse, poor posture, or stress. When the needle is inserted into these points, it creates a localised response, relaxing the muscle fibers and promoting blood circulation. This process aids in reducing muscle tension, alleviating pain, and facilitating tissue healing.

Have you tried dry needling?

The model of care you choose for your birth can have a massive impact on your birth outcomes ✨

The evidence shows so many wonderful benefits to midwife led continuity of care. Not only can midwifery led care help reduce interventions and improve maternal satisfaction but in doing so can also help pelvic floor health and recovery.

Cupping is an ancient practice that involves placing specilaissed cups on the skin to create suction, promoting blood flow to the affected area and stimulating the body’s natural healing processes.

The many potential benefits of cupping includes:
- Improved Circulation
- Muscle Tension Relief
- Detoxification
- Stress Reduction

Cupping is used as an additional tool to our standard Osteopathy treatments at Tugun Osteopathy and has proven to be beneficial for a number of our clients, try it for yourself and see!

✨ BIRTH KITS ✨

Birth kits are now available to hire! Send us a message or give us a call on 0405 640 786 to secure one for your birth!

Each birth kit includes:
Affirmation Cards- Self-affirmations are designed to help you re-program any limiting beliefs, confront your fears and empower you to manage pain.
Your body achieves what your mind believes, and these cards have been designed to guide you towards where you would like to go.

Birth Comb- The teeth of the comb applies pressure to acupressure points that create a distraction and a new focal point for the brain to concentrate on.

Essential Oils- To help with the sensations of labour by easing any body or mind discomfort. Also helpful for afterbirth pains and period cramps and for grounding both during pregnancy and postpartum.

Birth Sling- The birth slings can be used to optimise active and upright birth positions during labour and to assist in supporting the birthing person. Upright labour has been associated with quicker labour times, a decrease in the rate of intervention and a decrease in rates of caesarean births.

Fidget Rings- Used to help reduce stress and anxiety and to help distract your brain during labour and contractions.

Birth Ball & Peanut Ball- Both the Birth Ball and Peanut Ball are aimed to keep you upright and active during labour. They can help to create space in your pelvis and optimise foetal positioning during pregnancy and labour. A ball can also help relieve pain and pressure in the months or weeks leading up to delivery and some studies show a reduction in labour of up to 2 hours with the use of a birth ball.

Rebozo- The Rebozo is a special woven cloth, woven by indigenous weavers generation after generation. The rebozo can help to: relax tight uterine ligaments, abdominal and surrounding muscles, help baby move in the pelvis during pregnancy or labour and help a birthing person relax in labour.
