Great photography artworks from my recent visit to the Sydney Contemporary exhibition.
Behind the scenes, I utilized a garden blower to create a water pattern motion for the background while focusing the main light on the product. This technique proved to be highly effective in achieving the desired effect.
Using water, light, and shadows, I create a cool water pattern motion that enhances the floating effect and overall atmosphere of the product.

It is great to work on the product video setup in the studio. The Amaran LED lighting adds a dynamic visual element, while the Atomos monitor ensures high-quality previewing. I'm particularly pleased with how well my hybrid Canon camera R5C transitions between photo and video, ensuring top-notch capture quality across both mediums.

Indulge in the rich flavors of tradition with Zongzi (糭) savory sticky rice dumplings wrapped in fragrant bamboo leaves, deeply rooted in Chinese culinary heritage.
It was a joy to have creative freedom, shaping a low-key modern mood and contrasting tones to present this traditional Chinese food product. Subtle highlights emphasize the texture of Zongzi, while darker tones complement the modern ambiance.

A simple light grey and white background always works well to stand out for colorful shape beverage products. The floating bottle cap creates an interesting moment, suggesting the product is ready to drink.

The product shoot involved extensive preparation across pre-production, shooting, and post-production phases. While the creative process took time, it was well worth it to achieve the desired effect and message.
The unique shooting angles reveal new character and perspective in the wine. The splash and liquid flow capture the champagne’s rhythm in still life photography.

Taking the train to the location shoot was great. I got to see a beautiful half view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge from the station platform.
Acquiring a piece of acrylic in Australia can be challenging, from the initial order to the costs and shipping logistics. After much effort, I finally have one for my studio lighting setup.
Visiting the local gallery for Narelle Autio's exhibit was a treat. Her use of strong colors in road trip snapshots captured with film photography is a rarity that's seldom seen. The title, 'In the Distance,' speaks volumes about the people and the essence of a road trip across Australia.
Work on new project, it is time to update the cover photo.
Controlling the background color tone is crucial in product photography, especially to align with the brand packaging color. This often requires numerous subtle adjustments in Photoshop. While the bottle remains static, ensuring harmony with the vivid appearance of the grapefruit is essential. Achieving a balance between these two elements is key to producing compelling product images.

Shooting at Manly Beach adds a refreshing touch as I step out of the studio to embrace the wind, sun, and water. Wonderful☀️🌊🏖️🩳
Renting additional equipment from local suppliers, I rented the excellent Canon RF 85mm lens f1.2L, renowned for its ability to capture high-quality images on location for our upcoming commissioned project.
A special thanks to Sunstudio’s team for assisting me in setting up my new account and ensuring timely delivery of the lens for our project. They are a professional supplier offering studio rentals, equipment retail, and rentals, providing comprehensive support for professional photographers.
The classic shooting angle is enhanced by unique colors and props, creating a distinct aesthetic.

Congrats to all the winning photographers. It was humbling to participate in the final. European Product Design Award
After Chinese New Year, I received some exciting news from the European Product Design Award (ePDA).
I'm honoured to announce that the series 'Chrysalis Silk Treasures,' photographed by me, has been awarded as the Winner in PRODUCT PHOTOGRAPHY, Packaging Product Design Photography, by the ePDA committee. This remarkable project, featuring packaging designed by Never-Never Design Studio, showcases the Chrysalis Silk Treasures packaging. Inspired by the transformation from chrysalis to butterfly, the packaging features a prominent chrysalis illustration in the background, symbolising the journey of beauty. The packaging's top-right corner showcases an intricately embossed cocoon texture, strategically placed against Patriot Blue and special-textured paper. This portrayal captures the cocoon's protective and regenerative essence, evoking grace and transformation in a visually compelling manner.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Woody Chau and Can Chan, the Packaging Lead Designers, for their creative collaboration on this project. It was a pleasure working with them on this packaging design photography endeavour.
Reflecting on my humble beginnings as a product photographer in an in-house packaging design company in the mid-90s, being recognised with this award in the category of Packaging Product Design Photography is truly humbling.
If you have a packaging or product photography project in mind, I'd be delighted to discuss and collaborate. Please feel free to get in touch.

As the new year begins, I'm refreshing my profile photos with a 'out with the old, in with the new' approach—embracing self-portrait photography, or simply, a selfie. 📸✨
The old self-portrait, taken in a Hong Kong studio years ago, served its purpose. Now, in a new studio, I bring a fresh perspective to my self-portrait.
A selfie, to me, is self-refreshment. I've added vibrant colors through trial and error, aiming for a renewed, authentic impression. Without props, just my round glasses, this self-portrait symbolizes self-expression and personal growth. 🎨

It is the end of the year, and it has been a year of significant changes in my career. This year, I embarked on a personal project, a conceptual still life series, where I channeled my creative energy into creating new images that reflect my thoughts and perspectives.
One particular image from this series, titled 'Water Heart,' has received the honor of securing a place in the Top 20 in the Advertising & Fashion category at the Capture Awards 2023 from Capture magazine based in Australia.
I'm deeply grateful for the recognition. This acknowledgment has been a tremendous source of encouragement for me to continue my creative photography journey, and I am sincerely grateful for it. I look forward to creating more images in 2024.

Speaking of vintage wine—typically referring to wine that has aged around 20 years—this project features a simple two-color setup with a graphic aesthetic, perfectly complementing the sophisticated and timeless feel associated with vintage wines.
