Did you know that emotions like anger, sadness, fear, hurt, and guilt from your childhood can create emotional baggage that sticks with you into adulthood? This baggage doesnโt just affect your moodโit can also manifest as physical weight, holding you back from reaching your ideal body.
The idea that we hold onto emotions, especially from early childhood, is supported by several psychological theories and findings. Hereโs a brief overview:
Early Childhood Development and Emotional Imprinting
Psychodynamic Theory (Freud) suggests that early childhood experiences, particularly before age 7, shape our unconscious mind. These experiences can create emotional imprints that influence our behaviour and emotional responses throughout life. Attachment Theory (Bowlby) adds that early relationships, especially with caregivers, affect our emotional regulation and attachment styles. Unresolved issues here can lead to lasting emotional patterns.
The Critical Period Hypothesis
The first seven years are crucial for emotional and psychological development. During this period, childrenโs brains are highly adaptable but also impressionable. Emotional experiences can become deeply ingrained, influencing later behaviour and emotional regulation.
Neuroscience and Memory Formation
Implicit memories, formed early in life, store emotional responses to experiences. These memories affect our behaviour without conscious awareness. The amygdala, a brain region involved in processing emotions like fear and anger, is especially active in early childhood. Intense emotional experiences can lead to strong emotional memories that affect behaviour later in life.
Therapeutic Observations
Therapies like NLP, Timeline Therapy, and EMDR are based on the premise that unresolved childhood emotions can be accessed and released to improve well-being. These therapies focus on reprocessing early emotional experiences to alleviate present-day emotional and psychological issues.
Behavioral and Emotional Patterns
In Transactional Analysis, the concept of โscriptsโ suggests that children develop unconscious life plans by age 7, based on early experiences. These scripts guide behaviour and emotional responses throughout life.

These chemicals - natural or man-made - are non-selective in nature. This means they target and act on all bacteria in your microbiota โ not only โbad bacteriaโ. While a broad-spectrum approach may be necessary at times, good bacteria are also removed by non-selective treatments. In fact, research has shown that some treatments act more against beneficial bacteria of the gut microbiome than potentially pathogenic bacteria, causing harmful alterations to your gastrointestinal
ecosystem.
Instead, I like to bolster the body's own ability to destroy harmful elements by improving the function of the paneth cells using Nrf2 activating sulphorophane at the clinically accurate dose.
I will use antimicrobials only if needed, which is rare these days using the principles of nutrigenomics in my clinic.
Paneth cells secrete antimicrobial molecules such as lysozyme, defensins, and phospholipase A2. These substances help to kill bacteria and other pathogens, protecting the gut from infections.

Did you know that your morning coffee might be more than just a pick-me-up? While caffeine can boost energy and alertness, it also stimulates the production of cortisol, our body's primary stress hormone.
For those navigating perimenopause, this connection becomes even more crucial. During this phase, our bodies experience hormonal fluctuations, leading to an increased need for stress response hormones. Cholesterol plays a vital role here, as it is the building block for these hormones.
When cortisol levels spike, especially with caffeine intake, our bodies might ramp up cholesterol production to meet the demand for stress response hormones. This can potentially lead to higher cholesterol levels. ๐ฉบ
Moreover, the type of coffee you drink matters! Unfiltered coffee, like French press or espresso, contains compounds that can raise LDL (bad) cholesterol. Opting for filtered coffee might be a healthier choice. ๐ตโ

What is it? And what does it have to do with healthy weight loss?
Stubborn weight gain is influenced by a multitude of factors, including emotional well-being, spirituality, and lifestyle choices.
I've been thinking about this a lot as I have added a new page to my website which is so important for the weight release journey.
Emotional well-being is more than positive thinking and hugging crystals - although both these activities are beneficial!
It is the subtle undercurrent of your thoughts, the push and pull that occurs behind the scenes of your conscious awareness, the quality of your dreams at night.
All this is happening in your unconscious mind - the storage zone for unresolved emotions, attitudes, beliefs, and so much more.
The most common emotional issue affecting weight loss is that of self-protection or 'armoring'. Time Line Therapy is a beautiful tool to release this without needing to feel the emotion or discuss the story behind the original trauma.
Another common emotional issue causing a slow metabolism is not speaking your truth, or using your voice. Often patterns and belief systems are implanted in childhood. Implications of not clearing this include thyroid disorders driving metabolic stagnation.
