The Rivers Academy of STEM Excellence (RASE) is a collaboration between local public primary and high schools.
This increases our students' access to high-quality STEM curriculum and opportunities while up-skilling our teachers' in STEM Education.

It's not as easy as you think to make a self-propelled car. Students at Lismore Heights Public School have been using the STEM Design Thinking Process to develop a range of self-propelled vehicles that use different forces. It was impressive to see the range of ideas and solutions at their testing and communication session!

Excitement is building! The bi-annual Bottle Rocket Challenge is on at The Rivers Secondary College Kadina High Campus on Tuesday 13th August. RASE has been busy running workshops for students and teachers and holding in-school finals in preparation for the challenge. Primary school students and high schools students compete in separate categories for the glory of being crowned Challenge Champions. A team from Dunoon Public School are the reigning champ in the primary school division with a distance of 76m, while the distance to beat for the high school students is 97m currently held by The Rivers Secondary College Lismore High Campus.

Today was the second and final day of our Look Ahead workshop. All students did themselves proud with the solutions they developed to complex problems that need to be overcome as Lismore rebuilds for a bright future after the 2022 floods. The panel members from the Living Lab Northern Rivers and NSW Reconstruction Authority were all very impressed with the quality of the presentations.

Today was the first day of our look ahead workshop at Southern Cross University . Students heard from staff from the Living Lab Northern Rivers about challenges that are being addressed as part of Lismore's post - flood recovery. They then got to work on developing their own solutions to these problems, which they will pitch to a panel of experts tomorrow. We are thrilled to launch the new STEM 2024 which will now be a series of professional learning events, accessible in online, hybrid, and in-person formats across various metropolitan and regional locations. These events will be held throughout the year and are FREE for all NSW Department of Education participants (a minimal fee will apply for non-NSW Department of Education participants).
