A new year for most of us is a signal for a fresh start. The year stretches out in front of us ripe with opportunity and potential. So you make your resolutions - I'm going to exercise more, eat healthier, lose weight... but then before you know it, March is around the corner and your motivation has waned. What happened? Thank you Ben and Nicole Robinson from CrossFit Margaret River for the quote! Why do you want to exercise more or lose weight? To be healthy right? But why do you want to be healthy? Why is health important? What will you do with your health? Health for all of us means we get to do the things that really matter to us in our lives, that we truly value. When we connect with those then suddenly we have a reason for doing something differently. In my next post we'll look at the second most important ingredient for success!

Is there anything you can do to reduce your risk of getting breast cancer? Or is it just up to our genes?
Here are a few science backed strategies that we know for sure can help...
1. Food is foundational to health - eating whole, colourful, plant foods helps you control your weight and maintain healthy hormone levels. The added phytonutrients help fight cancer - think mushrooms and broccoli amongst many others.
2. Get active - exercise promotes healthy hormone and blood sugar levels and boosts cancer-fighting immune cells too.
3. Limit alcohol - the less you drink the lower your risk of breast cancer. And you will sleep better and cut empty calories.
4. Aim for a healthy weight. This is especially important after menopause because that's when most cancers occur. Fat makes oestrogen, fuelling the growth and spread of cancer in the majority of cases. Excess weight is also linked to higher insulin and leptin levels which can promote cancer. Following 1, 2, and 3 above will help weight loss to follow naturally.

Here's to you prioritising your health!
