It was smiles and excitement all round, when I visited Briar Hill Preschool to let them know that they are receiving a $448,000 grant from the Allan Labor Government’s Building Blocks Grants!

Briar Hill Preschool will be using the grant to renovate the school and refurbish the toilets, kitchen, office and storage space.

I can’t wait to go back and see the new upgrades!

This is one of 17 kinders locally that received funding to upgrade facilities or buy IT equipment.

💰 Together we raised $660! With the funds raised from the Easter raffle, we are now only a few hundred dollars away from reaching our target of $1616 to purchase a good quality table, open play sink and stove for the cubby house.

💰 Together we raised just over $600! The funds raised will go towards purchasing a good quality table, open play sink and stove for the cubby house, totalling $1616. We are now more than a third of the way toward reaching our target!

Have you seen our new mural?

We are so grateful to Banyule City Council for approval of funds to have our beautiful mural painted.
We are especially thankful to local artists George Manioudakis for such a beautiful piece of art ❤️🙏
George is so talented and wonderful to deal with 🙏

Our mural consists of few elements that are personal to our kindergarten:
Two birds the Rainbow Lorikeet and Kookaburra- most commonly seen in our backyard,
Manna gum and Golden wattle -represents our two groups of children.
Eltham Copper Butterfly-specific to our region.
We hope that you will enjoy it when you are walking or driving past 😊

Recently we have celebrated a very special milestone, our educator Myra has been teaching at Briar Hill Kindergartener for 25 years.

We would like to express our appreciation and gratitude for 25 years of service at BHPS to Myra.

25 years of care, dedication, loyalty and commitments, it’s something truly rare in todays times.
Myra is part of the history of BHPS, generation after generation has been lovingly taken care of by her.

For the past 25 years landscape of education has significantly shifted and changed. Although changes are never easy, Myra has endured and adopted to these changes and stood stronger year after year.
Myra is BHPS’s pillar and a constant.


On behalf of Committee of Management and all families that have been part of our kindergarten, we simply would like to say

Meet Tashy 😃

Tashy is our Eastern long-necked turtle.

Eastern long-necked turtles live predominantly in Victoria in freshwater environments such as swamps, dams and lakes. The long-necked turtle can live up to 50 years. Tashy has been with our kinder for 10 years. 🤩

Tashy is very active when children are on site and she goes to nap each day when children leave the kindergarten.

Tashy loves swimming around and following children as they play near her little home.

Interesting fact about long-necked turtles:
Boys and girls look the same until 6 years old. When they mature to about 6 or 7 years old, the underside of their shell develops a V shaped indent at the tail for a male, or a U shape for a female. 🐢🐢🐢

We unfortunately have made the decision to cancel our Trivia Night. Given the kerfuffles surrounding COVID and restrictions etc., this fundraiser was not going to be the success we hoped it might be. Refunds will be made to those who have purchased tickets shortly.

Thanks for your continued support, and hopefully an in-person Trivia Night can run next year!

We are hosting a (virtual) Trivia Night on 20 November at 7pm!

We have partnered with Nick's Gnocchi and Pasta for a Pasta Drive this year! The Pasta Drive runs from today 2 September to 16 September 2021.

20% of all orders will be donated to the kinder. Happy eating!

This year we have partnered with Big Group Hug for their Pjs, Socks, Singlets & Jocks campaign!

Big Group Hug are seeking new packets of pyjamas, socks, singlets, and underwear for children sizes 2 to 16 (kids). All items donated go to families who are struggling with hardship (financial, homelessness, single parent families etc.) to ease their burden.

We are a donation point for this campaign. If you have any of these new and packaged items, you can donate them at our preschool for collection by Big Group Hug.
