There's a lot going on in the world right now and school-age children will be hearing and seeing TV, radio, social media and other media coverage.

Children won’t always understand the news on the radio, TV and social media, but media coverage of disasters and other distressing news events can affect them.

For example, children might feel:

🌙 frightened by what they see or hear
🌙 upset by the stress or distress that adults around them are feeling
🌙 worried that they or their families might get hurt
🌙 overwhelmed by constant coverage – they might even think the disaster is happening over and over again.

Your child will cope better if they have accurate, age-appropriate information about disasters and other distressing events in the news. They also needs plenty of opportunities to ask questions and talk about feelings.

Over the last 2 weeks, the children have enjoyed celebrating and taking part in some Chinese New Year activities. From filling their red envelopes with treasures, playing in our home corner, making a dragon puppet and sorting coloured balls onto lanterns. We also enjoyed a special performance from Sindy Mu from Enchanting Chinese Cultural Program to teach us about Chinese New Year through song, dance and puppets.

🎄 Are you as excited as we are for Carols this Friday? It's the event we've been looking forward to and we can't wait to celebrate with you!

🚧 Parking restrictions will be in place and there will be road closures on the day from 4.00pm to 11.00pm in the surrounding area. View list of road closures at manningham.vic.gov.au/carols

🎇🐶 The fireworks finale will commence around 10.00pm but we know our furry friends may not be the biggest fans. Please leave your pets at home and if you live nearby, secure your pets in a safe, comfortable location or bring them indoors during the display - which will last around 5 minutes.

Over the last 2 weeks at Deep Creek, we have embraced all that there is about the Olympic games!
The children took part in craft activities, learning a new song, counting our medals, watching our athletes compete in different sports and having our own Olympic Sports Days!
The Olympic games has been an opportunity for children to learn, appreciate and discover world culture.
It’s moments like the Olympics that enable children to see people from around the world come together as they celebrate their unique strengths and talents and how sport unites the world as one.

What a wonderful way to celebrate 35 years of Deep Creek Preschool with an Open Day and activities for our past, current and future families!
The Myuna Farm Mobile Ark was a hit with all the children ! They loved feeding and patting the animals while the face painters were kept very busy painting some beautiful creations on the children's faces or hands. The sausage sizzle filled our tummies and then it was time to celebrate with cake and sing Happy Birthday for 35 years!!
A special event of the day was selling potted succulents and raising funds for Red Nose Australia.
It was lovely to have a visit from past Kindergarten Teachers that have taught at Deep Creek!
Thank you to all the Committee of Management and Staff for organising such a memorable event!
