Hadassah Global Prayer

For International Women's Day, March 8, 2024

This Shabbat we are joining Hadassah’s global call to end the silence on the atrocities committed by Hamas. Hadassah is delivering a petition to the United Nations to demand that they hold Hamas accountable for their heinous gender-based violence primarily against women and girls on October 7 and to those hostages still in captivity.

We invite you to join in this special prayer.

The COSV wishes the entire Victorian Jewish Community a Happy Chanukah.

We hope to see the light in the darkness prevail once again while we pray for our friends and families in Israel.

The President and Board wishes all community members a year of light, warmth and prosperity.

Dear Members and friends of Elwood Shule,

It is with great excitement to inform you that we will be welcoming the Rabbinic team of Rabbi Effy and Rebbetzin Shayna Mushka Block to our Elwood Shule family just in time for Rosh Hashana.

The very enthusiastic duo have been living in Melbourne for the past three years, growing their following through outreach programs. Rabbi Block is Melbourne born while Rebbetzin Block is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. They have 2 young children, Yitchok Leib and Chaya Leah, and together are committed to cultivating a strong Jewish presence in the Elwood and surrounding area.

Their passion has motivated them to create a following with the wider community through Torah classes, Shabbat meals and Holiday programs, as well as Women’s’ circles and a Hebrew program for children.

'We are so eager to be joining this beautiful Elwood community and are looking forward to a bright future together. All of you make Elwood Shule the home that it is and we are honoured to join the Elwood Shule family.'

The Board is confident that Rabbi Effy and Rebbetzin Shayna Mushka will add a new sense of excitement through our community, and we hope that they will feel right at home here at Elwood Shule.

A new accredited course specifically developed for training Rabbis in Mediation is nearing completion

• The course will be prepared for National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS).
• This body is responsible for the development of Australian mediator standards and implementation across Australia.
• This course would be extremely beneficial in raising the benchmark on Rabbinical knowledge, which would meld both Halachic knowledge and professional skill sets when working with members of their respective kehillot.
