Well, it’s all happening! The house is getting packed as I type this and we’re jet setting off to the USA in just a couple of days.
I’ve done some tough and confronting things in my life, but this takes the cake. I always wanted the opportunity to live overseas- and I’ve been fortunate enough to be very well travelled- but I don’t think I ever truly believed I had the courage to actually make ‘THE MOVE’. I’d convinced myself that I just wasn’t one of those people (those brave people) who makes such a massive life decision.
For years this opportunity has been knocking on our door but we’ve pushed back. Whilst I had other commitments (my animals and of course my studios) as a great reason not to go, I know my fear has played a massive role in the delay. Until all so called ‘barriers’ were removed (studios closed and my Tyrone passed away in October 2023), only then was I able to agree to this leap of faith.
My baby girl is also the most important person in my life and I still don’t know if this is the right decision for her - but as her mummy, I can only hope that with our love and support she feels safe and looks at this transition as an adventure above all else. Only time will tell. All I can do is go on her and her emotions. At this very moment, she’s happily sleeping beside me in her temporary “holiday house” which indicates she’s doing pretty well. It’s me who’s struggled the most.
But, with the support (and sweat) of my incredible in-laws, the light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter and the overwhelm is becoming less. 🙏✨
America- we’re almost there 🇺🇸
Today I said my final goodbye to Level 1/199 Camberwell Rd, Hawthorn East. This studio has been one of the longest periods of time that I’ve ever spent in one place. When I refer to this studio as home, I truly mean it.
Closing this studio and locking the doors one final time has felt like a death of sorts. It’s one of the greatest losses I’ve ever faced. Jessica Dewar Yoga has and will always be a family business. It was established with love and only kind intentions. The dream was to remind people through yoga of what it means to be kind - kind to ourselves and kind to others. And I hope in some small way this dream has become a reality out there.
Whilst we will continue to teach outside of this studio, the letting go has been immense. I’m grieving at the moment, and I will for sometime to come. But I’ll be ok. And I will always look fondly back on the memories created and moments shared with so many over the years within this tiny studio. A tiny studio with a huge amount of love.
I want to say a huge thank you to my in-laws Kevin & Trish. You’ve believed in me from the beginning. Your support has been incredible and I’m so grateful to have you both in my life. To my beautiful sister Alexandra. You’ve always said you’d be my number one fan, and you really have been. Your years of guidance, encouragement and help have been so appreciated. I have no idea what I would have done without you.
And finally, to my husband Owen. My rock. Nothing would have been possible without you. Nothing at all. You were the silent partner behind the scenes that made everything work. Everything was achievable and achieved because of you. You have stood by me every step of the way and I’m certainly the luckiest woman in the world to get to share this journey with you. My love, thank you for giving me the chance to do what makes my heart sing. I love you.
We know this is not a goodbye. Just a goodbye to a physical space. The teaching will continue, it’s just the backdrop that will change. I say this bravely now, but the tears still flow. I guess now is the time I get to put my years of yoga into real life practice. To be still and simply breathe.
Namaste 🙏

Yoga and mental health: How yoga can help manage stress and anxiety 🙏

Packed studio last night with yin yogis. There is nothing more magic than the energy of so many beautiful humans, all coming together to rest, restore and relax. The studio was cosy and warm. Really, the perfect way to start the week. 💕
Women’s Wellbeing: Yoga for hormonal health
As women, we are always gently (or not so gently) swayed by the rhythms and cycles of our hormones. - https://mailchi.mp/jessicadewaryoga/womens-wellbeing-yoga-for-hormonal-health
It’s not yoga without Savasana. 👈
It can be tempting to skip Savasana when doing a home practice or if you’re in a setting where it’s easy to slip out at the end of class (a gym comes to mind), but doing this totally contradicts the entire purpose of your practice.
Savasana offers yogis an opportunity to integrate all the benefits of their practice; to observe the shifts and subtle changes within their body and mind; and to give the body time to truly rest.
Rest has a colossal impact on our body and minds ability to heal, to function optimally and with ease. Rest strengthens our immune system, balances the digestive system and lowers toxic levels of cortisol in our bodies. There is an abundance of reasons why Savasana is the most important pose of an entire yoga practice.
Without Savasana, you’re doing nothing more than an exercise class. With Savasana, you are capturing and cultivating the very essence of yoga. 🧘♀️
So next time you’re tempted to sneak out of class early, wait. Lay down, rest and dive deep into the self (the very thing you might be unconsciously trying to avoid by leaving early😉). Here is where the change happens. 🙏💕
This evenings practice with my little princess. 👑
A lot of time is spent “on me” during practice, but I’ll take what I can get. 🤪 Tonight, flamingo 🦩 and camel 🐪 were favourites for my baby girl.

What is a chakra and how can I balance mine? - https://mailchi.mp/jessicadewaryoga/what-is-a-chakra-and-how-can-i-balance-mine
The energy in the class this evening was pure tranquility. Ironically, it was a very challenging class for a number of the students in the room, and yet because of that challenge, they left feeling more deeply rooted and connected with themselves and something higher, something which I cannot claim to know what that is. Perhaps it’s a feeling, or a sense? Perhaps the word release is a good one to explain that higher state?
Whatever it might be, it was through the challenge, that people made their way there. 🖼️
I think it’s important that people never underestimate the power of a yoga practice. Looking beyond the fact that Yoga is very on trend at the moment, there is a reason why it has lasted thousands of years. The physical benefits, emotional and spiritual shift, its ability to help us heal and restore the body and mind. I could go on.
These are the benefits that, if practiced, any student of Yoga will inevitably experience at sometime or another. 🙏
Practical tips for living your yoga - https://mailchi.mp/jessicadewaryoga/practical-tips-for-living-your-yoga
I’m working hard to practice what I preach. With a very disrupted personal practice I’m trying super hard to be at peace with this. As someone who likes routine and sets extremely high standards for myself, it can feel like it’s all crumbling down around me when that routine is disrupted. Usually it’s fine, but just like eating junk over long periods eventually catch’s up with you, leaving you feeling unmotivated, uncomfortable and out of sorts, my irregular yoga practice can eventually reach this point also.
Thankfully, this morning, my baby girl happy sat and watched me practice. She was still sleepy and in a bit of a daze watching, which was perfect to give me the much needed quiet I’ve been so desperately craving.
Again, not my regular practice or way of practicing, but I’ll take and lovingly accept whatever yoga opportunities I get nowadays. 🙏💖
