Last night we celebrated the 7th Birthday of The Ideas Business.

This is first and foremost a family business.

While a lot of what you see here on LinkedIn is me, the business doesn’t survive without the support of my family.

Suze, Josh, and Em all sacrifice family time for me to live out my dreams. I do this (in part) so they can all profit from my endeavours - now and in the future, however they choose to do so. They also have to ride the usual small business rollercoaster of cashflow, early hours and long nights, weekend work, overseas travel and more.

The first 7 years have seen us go through the startup phase, (only just) surviving Covid, and the continual quest to create ideas that make the world a more creative place.

I sincerely thank everyone for being part of our journey so far. Your friendship and support has helped us send the kids to good schools, go on holidays together, and live a happy and healthy life. I never underestimate that we wouldn’t be here without the support of our wonderful clients.

The good news is that creativity and ideas are things you can never run out of. In other words, we’ve only just begun.

On Sunday, I’m launching the most ambitious creative project I’ve ever started. It’s something that will happen every single day for a year - and the aim is to save someone’s life. I can think of no more important way to celebrate World Creativity & Innovation Day (21 April) than what I’m about to share with the world. If I can get it right, it’s literally a matter of life and death - and we don’t get to say that about creativity too often.

Today is David Bowie Day!

Bowie was unique in many ways. One of which is that he was born on the 8th of Jan (1947) and died on the 10th of Jan (2016).

So at The Ideas Business we’ve declared the day between (9th of Jan) as David Bowie Day. 24 hours to celebrate the life of this visionary creator.

To help celebrate - all you need to do is a take a risk on something today. Maybe it’s a small decision (like, what you’re going to eat), or maybe it’s a bigger decision (a work related problem, or something in your personal life).

To quote Bowie: “Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”

Our 5th and final guest speaker for 'The Creative Camp' is the tour de force Claire Taylor! I'm thrilled to reveal our first guest speaker for The Creative Camp - Shea Morrison! Shea is an expert in sleep - which is SUPER important for creativity. As the co-founder of The Goodnight Co. (an evidence-based sleep solution business), Shea focuses her passion on providing education and support to help people get better sleep. On The Creative Camp, Shea will be doing an after-dinner workshop (just before bed) to help everyone have a relaxing night seducing the subconscious to imagine new possibilities. Today is the 6th Birthday of The Ideas Business. Everyone's getting involved! Yesterday we launched 'The Creativity Census', to help take the temperature of creativity and innovation in the Australian media and marketing industries. So far we've had people from oOh!, carsales.com.au, Audience360, Hatched, Equality Media + Marketing, Partners in Digital and more complete the census. It takes about 10 minutes, and the results are being presented at Mumbrella360 in July. To complete the census, just click on the link in bio.

I'm proud to share that next week we are launching something that's never been done before in Australia. ‘The Creativity Census’ is our attempt to understand if our Media & Marketing Industries walk the walk when it comes to creativity and innovation. Every Australian Media CEO (publisher & agency) will receive a copy of the Census to distribute to their teams to complete. We'll be releasing the topline results exclusively at Mumbrella 360 on July 20. Ben Lucas, Tahni Brooks and I have been working for the past couple of months to research the questions and design the Census from scratch. Look forward to sharing it with you!
