100 DAYS OF PREP
Today our Prep students enjoyed celebrating 100 Days of Prep with a range of special activities to demonstrate everything they have achieved so far. They welcomed their families for an open morning and showcased what they have learnt in their schooling journey. The 100th day marks a special opportunity to reflect upon and celebrate major milestones in each students' academic and social development.

Our Yarra Snowsports students had a fabulous time expanding their skills up on the mountains at Development Camp over the past two weekends.

Congratulations Mary Carroll, a past long serving member of staff, who was recently inducted as the 42nd member of Netball Victoria's Hall of Fame. Mary was honoured for her 60+ years of involvement in Netball Victoria as a player, council member, delegate, liaison and author. An incredible achievement!

GIRLS IN CHESS
Our Middle School students competed for the first time in an all girls Chess Victoria tournament this week. The girls performed admirably. Grace Rewell (Year 9) achieved 7th place, a remarkable feat given the strong competition from other experienced players in the league. It was a great day and an awesome experience for the students.
BEST IN AUSTRALIA
Congratulations Dylan Phung (Year 12) who received a Silver Medal in the Asia Pacific Informatics Olympiad. This was an invitation only competition. The Australian team won 1 silver and 4 bronzes placing Dylan as the best in Australia for this competition. An incredible achievement!

VCE PREMIER’S AWARDS - VCE HIGH ACHIEVERS 2023
Congratulations to Calvin Zhu, Hannah Bradtke and Christina Qian who were recognized last week at the Premier’s VCE Awards at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre for their outstanding academic results in 2023.
Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Award
School Dux, Calvin Zhu received a Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Award. The Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Award is awarded to students who have achieved study scores of 46 or higher in at least five VCE studies. Calvin is one of only 23 students to receive this award in 2023 so it is a remarkable achievement.
Study Award
Individual Graded Assessment scores are used to determine the order of merit for Study Awards to identify the best students. Students must have a study score of 46 or above to be eligible for an award.
Hannah Bradtke and Christina Qian received Study Awards for their outstanding results and achieving a perfect study score of 50 for Product Design and Technology and Economics respectively.
This year, a total of 332 awards, including 23 Top All-Round VCE High Achiever Awards, recognised the exceptional dedication and hard work of 310 students during the 2023 VCE.
The entire Yarra Valley Grammar community is proud of Calvin, Hannah and Christina and would like to congratulate them on being the recipients of such prestigious awards.
We wish Calvin and Hannah every success in their tertiary endeavours and Christina every success in her Year 12 studies this year.

LANGUAGES OF THE WORLD WEEK
This week, the Junior School celebrated Languages of the World week. The students savoured delicious foods from around the globe, ordered crepes in French, watched very talented South American dancers, learnt a Bollywood routine and designed languages of the world badges. Our students also learnt to sign in Auslan, and enjoyed foreign language stories in the library. The week culminated in a fantastic costume parade, showcasing the extraordinary efforts and creativity of our students, parents and teachers. It's been fantastic celebrating the diverse cultures represented at our school.
YEAR 7 2025 FELLOWSHIP MORNING
This morning, we welcomed our Year 7 students for 2025. A very exciting day ahead!
SCIENCE SUCCESS
The Australian Brain Bee Challenge is a competition for students in Year 10 to learn about the brain including diseases, memory, perception, learning etc. It covers content that is high level university content. After competing in the 1st round, both Aimaan Arora and Dominic Burns have progressed through to the next round and will be attending the event in August at The University of Melbourne along with other top students from Victoria. Winners progress to further rounds culminating in the International Brain Bee World Championships. Good luck!

Our First XI Cricketers travelled to Darwin for the NT Strike League Tournament this week. A huge win on Wednesday was a great start!
SYDNEY MUSIC TOUR
This week the Yarra Valley Grammar Chamber Orchestra and Choir travelled to Sydney as part of the 2024 Australian International Music Festival. Our students gave a stellar performance at the Sydney Opera House. Bravo to all 35 students involved.

YEAR 6 AND YEAR 11 SCIENCE
The Year 6 students have been completing a unit about chemical change. They visited the Year 11 Chemistry classroom to complete flame tests, precipitation reactions, making hydrogen gas “pop” and they made polymer worms. Lastly the teacher demonstrated elephant’s toothpaste to help with the understanding of catalysts and exothermic reactions.
CHESS VICTORIA TOURNAMENT SUCCESS
Last week we hosted 146 students from nine schools for the Chess Victoria Tournament. YVG students competed admirably with YVG Team 1 securing 3rd place and Grace Rewell earning 2nd place in the individual top performing girl’s category. Our students have qualified two teams for the state finals.
