TEMPORARY RELOCATION OF CLASSES

Due to windstorm damage to our building, which may take some time to repair, we are relocating our classes temporarily, so that all our students can continue their Superhero training!

Starting from today (Monday 2/9), classes will be run from Tecoma Uniting Church. We will be using their Chapel Room, with slight variations to some class times. Tecoma Uniting Church is located at 1566 Burwood Hwy, right next door to Tecoma PS.

Today is our 26th Birthday!
Paragon was founded in 1998 by our Sensei Cameron, who was then just 20 years old. We know that he so believed in his vision that he of course would have imagined that Paragon would be thriving and creating superheroes over a quarter of a century later. He never could have imagined that he wouldn't also be here with us, but his legacy and presence is felt daily as he continues to have an impact on the lives even of people who never met him. What an honour it is to serve our Paragon community and families in his name.
We can't wait to celebrate with our families tomorrow night at our birthday party!

Well done to everyone who completed their graduations last week! It is always fantastic to see our superheroes demonstrating everything they have learned throughout the term with super focus and determination. Congratulations on the new belts and sashes, everybody! 💪🥋🎉

A group of our superheroes recently completed the Push-Up Challenge, run by The Push For Better Foundation to promote mental health education and fundraise for mental health support. The Push-Up Challenge involves doing 3,249 push-ups (for each person lost to su***de in 2022) with each daily target linked to a mental health fact. Our team of 22 managed a massive 45,000+ push-ups between them, and raised $550 for The Push For Better Foundation! Well done to everyone who took part. Thank you to those who joined us for the Lantern Parade last Saturday! It was a wonderful turnout and we marched proudly with our newly refurbished lantern. The kids behaved like superheroes all the way, and showed great stamina walking the whole parade up and back, beautifully representing our Superhero Karate School. Po also gave out many high fives and brought lots of joy to children and adults alike. We are so happy to be continuing this tradition!

To celebrate the Winter Solstice, we ran a day of Pyjama Classes! The morning was very cold and foggy, so it was the perfect day to come to class in PJs, Oodies, and dressing gowns. Everyone had a blast getting into the theme, and had fun being cozy while doing karate!

Congratulations to everyone who took part in our recent Paragon Karate Challenge!

The Karate Challenge is designed to help our students practice their confidence, resilience, and perseverance. They do this by completing the three challenges of sparring, performing kata, and board breaking. Each of these challenges is centred around collaboration and community, rather than competition.

All the students who participated did a fantastic job of challenging themselves, and truly earned their trophies! Well done to all our superheroes 🦸

We had such a fantastic time at our special Mother's Day Mums and Kids Class - thank you to everyone who came along! It was a wonderful evening of learning karate together, and sharing lots of laughs and gratitude with all of our Super Mums ❤

During the school holidays, we took our super families to see Kung Fu Panda 4! It's been a while since Paragon's last movie outing, and it was so much fun to share this experience with everyone. We fully booked a cinema up at the Cameo, and even had a very special visit from Po himself! Thank you to everyone who came along and helped to make it such a great event ❤🐼🥋 Cameo Cinemas

Today marks the 5th Anniversary of Sensei Cameron’s passing. It feels like both a minute and a century at the same time, as we continue to find ways to fill the empty space he left behind. We keep busy doing the things we know he would love that help us to remember him and feel close to him. We fill up that space with joy, because it was his wish that the Supercentre became the happiest place for our students, and the greatest job in the world for Paragon’s teachers.

As we continue to grow and build Sensei’s legacy, we still ask ourselves often, “What would Sensei Cameron do?” Of course, the question we are really asking is: What is the right thing to do? What is the kind thing to do? What is the most Super thing to do?

We had a great time last week during our annual Parents' Night Out! Our superheroes enjoyed an evening of karate games and movie watching, while their parents got to enjoy an evening to themselves for an early Valentine's Day. This is always a hugely popular event, and we love providing this opportunity for both kids and parents. It's always a fun night for everyone! Thank you to everyone who came along ❤

Thank you to all our families who joined us last week at our Welcome Back Picnic at Lysterfield Lake Park. We had the best time chatting and eating and swimming and of course, the favourite, our epic teacher vs student waterfight! (Yes, the kids did win, after we surrendered!)

Today is Sensei Cameron’s birthday. As we remember him, and reflect on his life and legacy, we wanted to share something he wrote about his journey. Sensei Cameron knew that almost everything he said or wrote was heard by others through the filter of his cancer and prognosis. He yearned for his messages about living life well and striving to be the best version of ourselves to be heard because they were important in their own right, not because they were lessons from a dying man. Here is the first post in a series he called “Cancer and Other C words”. We hope this helps remember him to everyone who knew him, and is a nice introduction for those who didn’t.

2023 has been a huge year for Paragon, marking 25 years since the school was founded by Sensei Cameron. It has been a great opportunity to look back at how we have developed from a karate school to a superhero school, and to look forward to the future of Paragon as well. We have had so many new families join us in their superhero journeys this year, and we're so grateful for everyone in our community, new and old.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended our 25th birthday party earlier this month! It was such a special night, and it was fantastic to see so many of the families that make up our wonderful community come together to celebrate. The night was full of joy and teenage mutant ninja turtles - we even managed to squeeze in a jumping castle!

Thank you to everyone who supported Paragon's Push Up Challenge last month! As everyone banks their last pushups and makes their final donations, we wanted to let you know that our participants completed a massive 38,488 pushups, and our awesome community raised $2,530 in donations for the Push For Better Foundation, Lifeline, and Movember. Thank you to everyone who took part - by doing push-ups, making donations, learning more about mental health, and taking the time to check in with the people around you. A super effort from all!

This term, many of our students have been doing The Push-Up Challenge. The challenge is aimed at raising awareness around mental health, and participants are challenged to do 3,144 push-ups in recognition of the 3,144 Australian lives lost to su***de in 2021.

Kindness is one of the most important values that we hold here at Paragon, and it feels very fitting that the push-up number on the final day is about kindness. Congratulations to our new Paragon black belts! You worked so hard, both during the test and in all the time leading up to it, and demonstrated Paragon's black belt qualities to the highest degree.
