Congratulations must go to Sue Hastings - one of the original generation of Maribyrnong parkrunners, she returned to Maribyrnong parkrun this morning for our 10th anniversary and in doing so completed her 250th parkrun event!
Sue started parkrunning back in December 2014 - in Maribyrnong parkrun event #18 - and has completed 87 events at Maribyrnong to go with 163 other events from 37 different parkrun locations across Victoria, NSW and the ACT. She's been a great improver over the journey, racking up no fewer than 20 PBs!
Sue's also been a huge contributor to parkrun as a volunteer - she's volunteered a total of 55 times (making her an official member of the parkrun 50 Volunteer Club), tackling the first timers welcome, token sorting, photographer, barcode scanner, finish tokens, finish token support, funnel manager, tail walker and pacer roles.
Some trivia - she now calls Hastings Foreshore parkrun (on the Mornington Peninsula) her home parkrun, and has completed 85 events there, but swears they didn't name the parkrun after her ... 😉
Congratulations Sue - welcome to the parkrun 250 (green t-shirt) Club!
🎉 Maribyrnong parkrun is celebrating its 10th anniversary! 🎉
We want to extend a huge thank you to our amazing Co-Event Directors, Stuart and Chris, for their incredible dedication over the years. Their hard work and passion have made Maribyrnong parkrun the special event it is today.
As we mark this milestone, we’d love for you to share your favourite parkrun stories! Whether it’s a personal achievement, a memorable run, or just the joy of being part of the Maribyrnong parkrun family, please share your experiences with us.
If you’d like to express your thanks to Stuart and Chris, why not consider volunteering? It’s really easy, a lot of fun, and a fantastic way to support our community. Every bit of help makes a big difference.
Here’s to another decade of running, volunteering, and building friendships at Maribyrnong parkrun! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
Tomorrow we turn 10 - we'll be celebrating with cake, other treats and, as usual, a free, timed 5km run/walk through beautiful Maribyrnong parkland.
If you'd like to dress up, "white" is the theme (as white is the parkrun colour for 10 milestones), so wear as much or as little white as you like...
See you tomorrow!
We held our very first Maribyrnong parkrun on August 23, 2014 - in the 10 years since then:
🔴 we've held 443 events
🟠 13,628 parkrunners have run or walked (94,857 runs/walks)
🟡 474,285km has been run/walked - more than the distance from the Earth to the Moon!
🔵 15,014 PBs have been recorded
🟣 799 parkrunners have volunteered
To finish off "Stats Week" in the lead-up to our 10th anniversary on Saturday, here's a list of the Maribyrnong parkrun legends who've participated, PB'd and volunteered the most at Maribyrnong across the whole of our first 10 years.
For the stats geeks and anyone curious, here's how Year 10 at Maribyrnong parkrun went, by the numbers...
parkrun events are made possible by a team of volunteers - without volunteers giving up their time, there is no parkrun (we look for approximately 17 volunteers every week to make Maribyrnong parkrun events possible).
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make Maribyrnong parkrun possible during our 10th year!
Here is a list of every parkrunner who volunteered at Maribyrnong parkrun 3 times or more during our 10th year - how many of these volunteers do you know?
parkrun is a great place to challenge yourself and for many parkrunners pushing yourself and recording a new PB (Personal Best time) is a great way to start the weekend.
Here's a list of the parkrunners who've racked up the most PBs at Maribyrnong parkrun during our 10th year - congratulations to everyone on this list!
A special mention must go to Bridget O'Neill, who came home with a shiny new PB an amazing 26 times during the year, slicing a total of 11 minutes and 15 seconds off her 5km time!
We held 53 events during our 10th year at Maribyrnong parkrun - the one that just ended last Saturday - and we saw a LOT of regular faces at Maribyrnong every week.
Here's a list of everyone who ran or walked at Maribyrnong in more than half of the events - are you in there?
Congratulations go to John Cooper, who crossed the finish line at a parkrun event for the 250th time this morning!
John's done most of his parkrunning at Maribyrnong (155 events in total) but he's also compiled a very impressive parkrun tourist résumé - 95 events at 65 different locations across all states and territories in Australia plus Canada, the US, France and the UK (including a visit to Bushy parkrun).
John has also been a prolific contributor to parkrun as a volunteer - he's already a member of the parkrun 50 Volunteer Club and has taken on the pre-event setup, post-event close down, barcode scanning, finish tokens, first timers welcome, funnel manager, pacer and parkwalker roles at different times.
Congratulations John! Welcome to the parkrun 250 (green t-shirt) Club!
We had ideal conditions for Maribyrnong parkrun this morning with bright and sunny cool weather for our participants.
361 parkrunners ran and walked in event #442, including 11 doing their first ever parkrun anywhere and 22 tourists visiting Maribyrnong for the first time - 69 parkrunners recorded new Personal Bests (PBs).
Congratulations to Lana Pound (10 runs/walks), Steve Duckworth (50 runs/walks), Stephen Wildsmith (100 runs/walks), Ian Holland (250 runs/walks) and Keith Dekok (50 volunteers) for reaching milestones!
There are lots of photos for today. Thank you very much to Natasha Cnossen and Amarnath Ettikala for getting out on the course and taking these great shots!
