On Wednesday 4th September we celebrated National Early Educators’ Day. It was a great day to recognise the difference our Early Childhood Educators make to the wellbeing and development of the young children in their care.
Thank you for shaping little minds, sparking curiosity and making learning fun.
We look forward to celebrating with our amazing Teachers in October for Teachers Day.
Don’t delay, get into Grill’d today and grab a meal. Your token will support our kinder and entries close August 31st. We are currently trailing so any extra tokens might just help us achieve the win! Thank you to all our supporters so far.

We love supporting our children to develop their fine motor skills!
Having good fine motor skills definitely supports children to be able to write their names and draw what they imagine but fine motor skills also support children to:
🎒Zip up their kinder bags and jackets
👕Button their shirts
👟Tie or strap their shoes
🍱Open and close their lunch box
🍪Open their packet of biscuits
🤲🏻Wash their hands thoroughly
🪥Brush their teeth and hair
All of these tasks create confidence and independence in being able to utilise self help skills!

This year’s National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day theme is, ‘Strong in Culture, Stronger Together’.
This year we stand with our children, proud of their culture, stories, kin and community - all that makes our children special, resilient and the bright leaders for our future.
Our vision is for our children to thrive, be strong in culture and connected to kin and community - our children should be proud to come from the oldest living culture in the world.

Our 3yo Jellyfish group have been reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle (every session!). To say it's a favourite would be an understatement!
To extend on their love of this story, the children had the opportunity to make their very own caterpillars.
The children enjoyed using paints, sponges and their fingers to bring their favourite book character to life.
Whilst creating, the children repeated the story to themselves and their peers, practiced new vocabulary, developed maths and science skills in counting and colour and shared resources and took turns developing respect and fairness for one another.
We can't wait to see how the Jellyfish extend on their love of the Hungry Caterpillar further 🐛
At Seaford Kindergarten we enjoy participating in learning experiences that connect children with nature. We have been busy weeding our vegetable patches ready for planting, reading stories about nature, recycling and sustainability.

We love creating small world play spaces, dramatic play areas for 1-3 children to explore and develop their skills.
This term we used the children's interests of dinosaurs, blocks and princesses to create two new small world play areas. Take a look 👇🏻
❓ How does small world play help children to learn?
When children engage in small world play they are able to explore their world, express their feelings and act out scenarios from their lives to work through challenges and conflicts. Small world play enables them to feel safe and confident enough to problem solve, be themselves and develop skills they can use in real-life.
Children also develop their language and social skills when playing with others.

When we visited the Seaford Wetlands we noticed how many beautiful patterns there were on the trees and in nature.
We also went searching for patterns in our own kinder yard!
To extend our learning, we decided to make our own nature patterns using paint screening and printing.
✨ How magical do our artworks look?! ✨
Relocatable Butterfly Garden
Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant
SEAFORD KINDERGARTEN ASSOC. INC
The aim of our project is to create a relocatable butterfly garden to move with the centre in 2025, then to the rebuilt centre in 2026. The children will be involved in selecting pots and plants from posters, hand painting pots, measuring soil, planting, watering and care of caterpillars and butterflies. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include learning about plants and insects, care and cultivation; a continued connection to place for students returning in 2025 and 2026.

We are loving playing in our cave!
Heuristic play is when children interact and play with everyday objects, bits and pieces. They use their senses to explore and interact with the objects that are available, creating their own learning and investigations as they play.
Heuristic play encourages critical thinking, creativity and concentration, as well as development in sensory motor skills.
Our imaginations have been creating so many new stories and narratives with our objects!

This week we have been learning about reconciliation and the culture and beliefs of the traditional custodians of the land in which we play and learn.
🪹 We demonstrated our respect to our land and community by building a nest for Bundjil.
🫶🏾 We continued to be kind to one another and be thankful for what we have.
🌈 We enjoyed a visit from Wayapa Wuurk where we began to learn how we can connect to country and take care of the land, the animals and each other.
🌱 We explored our natural surroundings at the Seaford Wetlands and practiced respecting living things and our environment.
We may be young but we can begin to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements now, and contribute to reconciliation in Australia.

NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK 2024
This week is National Volunteers Week and we want to say a huge THANK YOU to our many kindergarten volunteers!
Thank you to our family volunteers; for coming on our community walks and visits, for joining in during Stay and Play, for buying raffle tickets and for bringing your children each day!
Thank you to our Committee Members; for organizing the fundraisers, for coming to our monthly meetings, for giving your feedback on policies and the services our kindergarten provides, for writing grant applications, for promoting our kindergarten.
Thank you to our Executive Committee; our Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. You go above and beyond with your time, effort and skills. You dedicate yourself to supporting the management of our service and without you we wouldn’t be a Community Kindergarten and we wouldn’t be a service.
Thank you to our President; you also go above and beyond, giving time, effort and your skill to support the staff and management of our kindergarten. You commit to being the face of the kindergarten and support our service wholeheartedly on every occasion.
We are PROUD to be a community run kindergarten and without our volunteers, this would not happen. This week, and beyond, we celebrate you and your ongoing contributions to our kindergarten. THANK YOU!

We have been mesmerised by our rainbow sensory experience lately...corn kernels dyed into a rainbow by one of our amazing teachers!
We have been tipping and pouring, measuring and comparing, using our imaginations to engage in dramatic play and sorting the colours. We also just love to feel the kernels fall through our hands.
So many learning opportunities 🙌🏻

Last week our 4 yo groups had a visit from Aussie Wildlife Displays !
We learnt all about different Australian animals. We got to touch, hold and feel them, and also learn about how to be safe around them in the wild.
To support the extension of our learning we have set up an engaging experience where children can process and document their learning by creating collages using different materials.
By creating with different materials children are investigating how to use them, igniting their creativity. They are using trial and error about how they fit into their creations, how to make them stick, how to make the right shapes.
We are adding to our vocabulary by learning new words such as habitat, carnivore, nocturnal and cold-blooded.
We are developing our fine motor skills, using precise movements.
We are increasing our wellbeing and those of our peers by being proud of ourselves and others.
