OPINIONS: What Ohi Day means to Greek-Australian youth 28/10/2021

In Greece, school children march at the annual Ohi Day parade on 28 October, a public holiday.

In the Antipodes, Greek-Australian youth grow up learning all there is to know about Gallipoli, they may know that there is a link between Greek and Australian histories, but it is up to the parents and Greek schools to drum the message of Greek Resistance.

We asked young Greeks what Ohi Day means to them and what they know about the day.

Why your kids should learn a foreign language 28/08/2021

Learning a foreign language allows children to become adept cross-cultural communicators and more tolerant citizens of the world.

We never can tell what loggerheads and disagreements we must have averted if we understand each otherโ€™s language and can communicate with one another.

Languages help children develop appreciation for other cultures: We love learning about the world and this is a good way to teach children about countries and the languages they speak. Languages help children develop an appreciation for the world around them, and cultures other than their own. It helps them realise that there is more out there than what we know here.

While kids can have fun learning bits and pieces from other languages, there are so many benefits of knowing how to speak another language, other than knowing how to speak them fluently.

Why your kids should learn a foreign language Getting your kids to learn a new language can be an exciting journey for them. It is never a waste even if they donโ€™t become fluent. Instead, early exposure to foreign languages will make language acquisition easier later in life.....

Young 'dream creators' make the impossible possible through innovative education program 10/08/2021

"Anyone can achieve the impossible, however, scientific research says that 92 per cent of people will not do so because of lack of self-esteem and direction.

The Young Dream Creators programme was designed on this hypothesis. The pioneer educational programme was created by Melbourne-based Global Opportunities Commercialisation to spark passion in children, bring them in contact with their peers across the world and give them the direction they need to complete a project they feel strongly about"๐Ÿ’™

Just a few minutes daily learning a language can boost your brain power 04/08/2021

"Learning a second language isnโ€™t just great for your brain, it can also lead to a surge in self-esteem, says life and leadership coach Kate Cashman."

Here at Omiros College we continue our focus on engaging our students in authentic, real-life educational activities.

Emphasis is placed on maximising students potential as one of the most important ingredients for success in learning Greek. Our students supply the motivation to work hard and the staff teaches them the strategies to work smarter and achieve better results.

Omiros students are exposed to a number of exciting learning experiences and are able to perform to the best of their abilities.

Just a few minutes daily learning a language can boost your brain power Usually, when youโ€™re learning something new, the brain-boosting benefits tend to fade once you get the hang of things. But that doesnโ€™t happen when youโ€™re trying to conquer another language.
