We are a Japanese language school located in the Melbourne CBD. We provide experienced and qualified Japanese lessons in Melbourne.
We want our students to learn Japanese like native Japanese speakers. We offer group lessons with class size no bigger than 6 people. If you are shy, we also have private lessons too. Our native teachers are super cool and qualified. We trust our method to be faster and as effective as Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid I and II. (The original version, not the Jackie Chan version)

There are many previous JM students who are now working in Japan.
Today, we would like to introduce Luke-san who is running his own business in 🗾
We hope that this encourages people who are aiming for/dreaming about working and living in Japan!!
Q: How long did you study at Japanese Melbourne and why did you start?
A: It was about for 1 year and I started learning Japanese at Japanese Melbourne because I had always had some interest in Japan (thanks to Karate Kids movies🥋)
Q: What did you like about JM?
A: My teachers were very patient with me! The first small group I started with was great and the classes were cozy and fun.
The immersive teaching style was challenging, but got easier as I progressed.
Since it is important to have at least some of the basics down, I might not have adjusted as well as I was able to if I hadn't learnt Japanese before arriving in Japan.
Q: What are you doing in Japan now?
A: My primary job is the recruitment manager for an ALT company. I worked my way up from teaching as an ALT to the office, and then to manager.
I also work at Premium Health Japan which is my passion. We are an exclusive partner with one of Japan's oldest matcha tea farms and are selling organic Uji matcha tea to Aus and NZ customers.

Q: What did you find great and difficult about living in Japan?
A: The best part about living in Japan is how peaceful, organised, clean and safe it is! also, people are very respectful.
The most difficult part has been the language especially if you need to go to your city office, bank or anywhere official.
The work culture here can also be challenging for some.
Q: Do you have any advice for our students who would like to move to Japan in the future?
A: Become as good as in Japanese! If you want to teach English, be aware that private English schools, forbid you from speaking Japanese at work.
I'd also advise you to save your money. Moving and setting up an apartment here is expensive! And get to know your cultural etiquette! It makes a very good impression if you show that you understand and respect Japanese culture!

It started from a storeroom.
Japanese Melbourne language school is old, like 11 years old.
It started in subleased storeroom of room 905 with an Ikea LACK table and a white board.
We now occupy the top level of the building with eleven classrooms.
All of our teachers are native Japanese.
Our point of difference is that we try our best to get our students over to Japan, rather than fostering a faux Japanese environment in Melbourne.
We are the first school to populate the ‘direct teaching’ method to Melbourne - all lessons are taught in Japanese.
That is to mimic a Japanese speaking environment since they don’t really speak English in Japan.
This way students will adapt and improve faster.
Everyone has their starting step in learning theJapanese language:
to prepare for a holiday or business trip to Japan, to impress your Japanese father-in-law, to pick up another language as a hobby, to understand manga and anime, or simply to find an excuse to hang out with friends and eat ramen afterwards.
