Hello September!
We have a seasonable display area, this month’s theme is “Tsukimi on Juugoya (Moon viewing on the 15th night”).
We have a custom to view the moon (Tsukimi) on Aug 15th on the lunar calender and it’s called juugoya (15th night)
This is an sutumn festival in Japane celebrating the harvest full moon. We display Tsukimi-Dango (sweet dumplings) and Susuki (Japanese pampas grass).
This year’s Tsukimi day will be on Tue 17th Sep.

Application period: August 28 (Wed) 9am AEST – September 9 (Mon) 5pm AEST or until capacity is reached, whichever occurs first.
There is no waiting list nor standby.

Hello August!
We have a seasonable display area, this month's theme is “Hanabi taikai (Firework festival)".
Fireworks, which we call “hanabi”, are one of the charms of summer in Japan.
Firework festivals are held all over Japan in summer.
A lot of Japanese people go to firework festivals wearing Yukata, which is a traditional Japanese summer garment.
At the firework festival, there are a lot of food stands, and people see the fireworks while eating the food.

In Japan, people write their wishes on strips of paper called "TANZAKU" and hang them from bamboo branches, which is said to make their wishes come true. We prepare "TANZAKU", so please write your wish on paper and hang on display area:)

Japan film festival has started! Enjoy 日本の映画(NIHON NO EIGA) online 🎬🍿

JAPANESE FILM FESTIVAL ONLINE 2024 | JFF+ The Japanese Film Festival Online 2024 - the third edition of the event and the largest one ever - will be held for a month by the Japan Foundation. It will feature 23 films and two TV dramas series with subtitles in avaiilable up to 16 languages, available in up to 27 countries/regions - for free.

【Sat 7th July】 Charity Event: Jpanese Spirit Festival

For Japanese children New Years Day is the most joyous day of the year. But this New Years Day Japan was hit by a massive earthquake. 75, 000 houses collapsed, 19,000 houses are still without water, and many children lost their lives or became orphans.

Join Keiko Fujiwara and her friends at Mayfield Street to support the children of the Japanese earthquake. Bring your own children to experience some aspects of Japanese culture that they will enjoy and help us send our love and support to the people of Japan.
ALL DAY (from 10am - 3pm): Origami, Ink Painting, and Calligraphy; Make and eat Japanese sweet dumplings; Make a Tanabata wish on bamboo ; Try some traditional Japanese kimonos; and listen to a story picture show with the accompaniment of Japanese harp and the bassoon.

11AM and 2PM: Adults and accompanied children can enjoy a traditional Japanese tea ceremony (including tea plus Japanese sweet) and take home their own Japanese tea bowl made right here at Mayfield Street! (Additional $20 pp)
12.15PM: Traditional Japanese drum and whistle band will play for 30 minutes.
12pm -1pm: Sausage sizzle.
All day additional tea bowls, snacks, and story books will be available to purchase and a second hand clothing/etc sale.
ALL PROCEEDS TO THE ORPHANS OF THE EARTHQUAKE.

We have seasonable display area, Theme is “Tsuyu (rainy season in Japan).

The rainy season begins in June in Japan and we call the season "Tsuyu".
The weather is very unstable and high level of humidity.
Therefore, children makes paper doll called "Teru teru bouzu" and hang to pray for sunny weather :)
The rainy season's radiant symbol is the beautiful flower called "Ajisai"(hydrangea).

【Japanese Pottery Workshop】

In this workshop, you will learn how to make Japanese style pottery to create a cup and a mini bowl. Naoko will provide all the tools and clay. Your cup and mini bowl will be professionally trimmed, fired, glazed, and delivered back to Japaneasey, ready to use or gift to someone special.

Hello! I’m Hotaru!
I actually painted window artworks of new JAPANEASY building. I’m so glad to hear that everyone seems to like it. This time, I’m going to hold a dual exhibition with my best friend in JAPANEASY!
It’s not exaggeration if I say the reason I came to Australia is to hold this exhibition. When I was still in Japan, I promised with my best friend to hold an exhibition in Australia. Finally, It will be realized! Thank you to Minako sensei!
The title is “まんま -You just as you are-“. The meaning of まんま is “Being natural”. We expressed “true myself” through our artworks, so please also enjoy freely with true your sensibility! I’m looking forward to meet you!

We have seasonable display area, Theme is “Kodomo no hi (Children’s Day).

May 5th is Children's Day.👦🎏
It is a day to celebrate all children growing up healthy.

Families with children display "Koi-nobori"(carp streamers) and "Kabuto"(traditional samurai helmet).
Carp are strong, fast-flowing fish that can swim energetically even in strong rivers and even climb waterfalls. Koinobori has the meaning of wishing for children to grow up and grow up like these strong carp.
Kabuto is considered a symbol of strength and vitality.

【Calligraphy Workshop】
Learn the beautiful art of traditional Japanese Calligraphy! Japanese calligraphy (書道, shodō) also called shūji (習字) is a form of calligraphy, or artistic writing, of the Japanese language. The art of brought to Japan by a Chinese calligrapher from the 4th century, but after the invention of Hiragana and Katakana, the Japanese unique syllabaries, the distinctive Japanese writing system developed and calligraphers produced styles intrinsic to Japan. The term shodō (書道, “way of writing”) is of Chinese origin as it is widely used to describe the art of Chinese calligraphy during the medieval Tang dynasty.
You will learn how to paint pictographic characters with an ink-drenched brush and a focused mind. Not only does this improve your kanji, you’ll also create a masterpiece to hang on your wall.
