Our instructors cleverly incorporate the Reformer into individualized class plans, working with and against the unique spring resistance to challenge the body into creating lasting change.

From injury recovery to building towards peak fitness, the Reformer should be a staple in any movement practice.

[ HI LIZ! ]

Grounded Movement is so lucky to have a Pilates practitioner of Liz’s calibre on our team.

Having started ballet at a very young age, Liz progressed through the Royal Academy of Dance’s syllabus prior to graduating from The Australian Ballet School. Liz’s professional dance career then included dancing as a Principle Artist at Singapore Dance Theatre Ballet Company, Guest Artist with the Hong Kong Ballet Company and touring as a Soloist with The Phantom of The Opera.

Liz’s depth of understanding and precision of human movement allows her to deliver a Pilates experience with exquisite attention to detail.

You can find Liz in the studio on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

[ PROPRIOCEPTION ]

The instability that occurs when walking on sand creates an environment that is especially helpful to re-educate and stimulate more neuromuscular activity in the lower extremities.

An injury or pain in any part of the body can negatively affect neuromuscular activity, altering the automatic response within the muscular system. The foot and ankle complex are very susceptible to this phenomenon.

Next time you're at the beach - take the runners off, let the sand squelch between your toes and feel the instrinsic muscles of the foot get to work!

[ SNAPPING HIP ]

We see many dancers present to the clinic with snappy, clicky hips when performing repertoire such as grand battements and developpé devans. Sometimes it's painful, too. Most commonly, the painful click results from an imbalance of the musculature surrounding the hip, between the stabilising and torque producing muscles. A stretching program alone will not fix this issue, as we need to reestablish appropriate activation, stability, strength and coordination of the entire region in order to facilitate a a long-term solution.

As part of our treatment at Grounded Movement we assess each dancer individually to identify the contributing factors so that the rehabilitation is precise and specific and effective.

FATIGUE ]

Fatigue can significantly increase the risk of injuries in sports. It's no surprise that we see an increase in presentations to our clinic towards the end of the season, whether that be in the midst of the football finals or in the lead up to dance concert season, where bodies are tired and aching for some R&R. Inadequate rest and recovery can make your body more susceptible to strains, sprains, and accidents. Remember, taking breaks and listening to your body is essential for staying in the game longer and performing at your best.

Prioritize sports safety and injury prevention by giving your body the rest it needs to stay strong and avoid unnecessary risks.
