Firbank Old Grammarians' Association

Welcome to the official page for Firbank Old Grammarians' Association (FOGA) World War II saw many changes but the spirit remained.

The Firbank Old Grammarians’ Association (FOGA) was founded in November 1918 and grew rapidly during the 20s and 30s. In an era when few women were part of the workforce, thriving literary, dramatic and sporting clubs contributed to the vitality of the Association. Old Grammarians continue to meet in order to foster friendships made at school and work to support the School and its traditions in various ways.

Congratulations to Amanda Bateman (2014) who has been selected for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Amanda has qualified for the women’s double scull, and this is her second Olympic Games. During Amanda’s time as a rower at Firbank, she was part of three division 1 Head of School Girls division-winning crews. This was an exceptional feat at school girl level. We had the pleasure of inviting Amanda back to Firbank to begin our rowing season in October and to christen our new quad scull named in her honour. We cannot wait to see Amanda in action in Paris.

Congratulations to Hayley Verbunt (2020) who has been selected for the Paris 2024 Olympics. Hayley will be coxing the Women's 8+. Hayley coxed for four years while attending Firbank. She won a division 1 Head of School Girls title in 2017 and coaxed our first eight in 2020. Some of our Firbank rowers had the opportunity to watch Hayley in action at Nationals last year, winning the Interstate Women's 8. We cannot wait to see Hayley in action this coming Olympics and wish her luck.
