Chilli powder to taste
Heat oil in a pan. Cook bacon, garlic and onion for a few minutes until lightly browned. Add to slow cooker. add a small amount of water to hot pan and then add that liquid to the slow cooker. Add all other ingredients to slow cooker and cook on low for approximately 6 hours. or until all vegetables are cooked through.
Great on toast for breakfast with a fried egg on top, or just on its own!
Why is exercise so important, and weight training in particular?
There are so many benefits to lifting weights, particular as you get older. Here are a few:
* it helps keep you warm! Muscle creates it's own heat (thermogenesis) so you stay warm!
* improved bone density
* better skin. A recent study of middle-aged women in Japan showed lifting weights improved skin condition and reduced skin thinning due to aging.
* allows you to be more active with your family, including getting down on the floor and playing trains with your kids!
What benefits have you found from weight training?
Do you meal plan and prep ahead? Do you have food proximity bias? Chances are, when your hungry, you open the cupboard or fridge to see what's there to quickly grab. Chances also are that what you reach for, particularly around 3pm, is something sweet. You are not alone, but by preparing snacks and meals with lots of veggies included, you can help to curb those cravings for something sweet, and sustain your energy for longer. By shopping, chopping and preparing food ahead of time, there is a chance that you'll reach for that better option most of the time. Not every time, but even a few times a week can make a difference to how you feel.
Do you "Shop and Chop"?
Doing your shopping, coming home and immediately washing and chopping your veggies and portioning them into bags or containers can save you so much time over the week and increase your chances of eating healthy food. You all know the feeling of opening teh cupboard or the fridge looking for something quick and easy to eat and how often that turns out to be something that, if you had time, you would not have chosen. Having snack packs of veggie sticks and dip ready to go will make it much more likely that you will choose that than if you have to prepare it from scratch every time you're feeling snackish.

As we wind down to the end of the year and the holiday season, I want to congratulate all my clients on what they have achieved this year. It's been great to see people enjoying lifting weights and putting themselves and their own health and well being first.
I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone can achieve in the next 12 months!
The pursuit of "thinness" often comes at a cost to your "healthness". If you're tired of trying new diets ever other week and the quick fixes becoming quick weight gain once you stop, there is a better way.
Visit www.beingyoupt.com.au/steppingout to find out how I can help you overcome the diet mindset and have you feeling, and functioning, better than ever.
I have a confession and a mission...
I think its a powerful message... I just have to share.
Something happens to me every where I go....
It happens to me every event I attend, every gym I visit, it even happens when I go shopping!
Wonderful people, all walks of life just come up to me - first they ask ‘what do I do?’ and when I tell them, the next thing they tell me is about some horrible restrictive diet they are struggling with...
Cutting calories/kilojoules to nothing for days and feeling terrible...
Trying to follow zero Carb diets....then binging...
Going on ridiculous high fat diets and no vegetables!
Some boast proudly how they've gone ‘x’ amount of days without sugar, coffee, chocolate... and then tell me how much they’re hating it...
All the time I’m thinking to myself, oh my gosh you don’t have to do this!!
You don’t have to try deprive yourself like that....
It doesn’t have to be like this!
Life is wonderful, it's way too short to not be happy with yourself and to struggle every day with food.
I know how it feels to struggle and agonize about food every day, because that's what I did for many, many years.
All through my teens and as a young woman into my 30’s – every day I beat myself up internally about what I should and shouldn’t eat.
I counted calories every meal, I yo-yo dieted, I weighed myself every day (and if I was over a certain mark on the scales I didn’t eat for the rest of the day!!!) Even worse, I had no idea how many other people shared my thoughts and experiences until I started sharing mine.
To be honest, this is what drives me to do what I do.
That’s why I’m so passionate about what I do.
So when I hear people constantly battle food demons, every day, I just want to help them.
This is what motivates me, in the kitchen and at computer to make my message as powerful and as practical as I can.
I truly believe you can have the body you want and never struggle with food ever again.
I’m on a mission.

Most children and adults in Australia and the United States do not obtain enough omega-3 in their diet and too much omega-6.
This is the underlying cause of tissue inflammation that promotes obesity, heart disease, brain ageing, behavioural problems such as ADHD, type-2 diabetes, increased risk of Alzheimer's, dementia and Parkinson's disease.
The research is now so compelling, the amount of omega-3 in your blood is considered a marker for risk of these conditions.
A lot of people don’t consume fish or seafood. Others that do, often don’t eat it more than once or twice a week. For better health and weight loss, it makes sense to be aware of the richest plant sources of Omega-3 to build as many as possible into your nutrition plan.

The holidays can be a real mess for people who struggle around food. Between relatives with no filters, food being everywhere, and the constant presence of diet culture making us feel as though we always need to be changing how we eat, this season is a real minefield.
One thing I want you all to remember is that it’s never okay to skip meals because you feel the need to punish yourself for eating food, or for the your body looks.
If you overate yesterday, you deserve to eat. Skipping meals to compensate can lead to rebound overeating. Even more importantly, food (or restriction of it) should never be weaponized.
If you’ve gained weight, you still deserve to eat. You still need to fuel your body, and gaining weight isn’t a punishable offence, people.
If other people have criticized your body, that’s THEIR stuff, not yours. Distance yourself from people who don’t appreciate you for who you are.
Even if there’s no food that you consider to be ‘healthy’ at an event, that’s okay. Understand that nothing bad is going to happen to you if you eat less-nourishing food, and you’re allowed to enjoy it.
Lastly, it’s OKAY to not feel positive about your body. But please don’t punish it by withholding food. Be kind to yourself!
TL;DR: No matter what you weigh, who you are, and what you’ve done, YOU DESERVE TO EAT.
Nourish your body, don’t punish it ❤️
