Lady Forster Kindergarten
The kindergarten your child would choose!
Lady Forster Kindergarten (LFK) nurtures a sense of fun and discovery, encouraging children to learn from a self-motivated place of wanting to understand. We offer a safe place where they are supported to be themselves and explore their own interests so that they can develop an understanding of who they are, and to respect the capabilities of other children, to work together, and to solve problems
It was such a privilege to welcome Aboriginal artist Merindah-Gunya Art (Bayley Mifsud), a proud descendent of Peek and Kirrae Whurrong clans of the Maar nation, to work with our children on a collaborative art piece for each of our kindergarten rooms.
Bayley shared indigenous symbols which tell a story through her paintings and the children worked with her collaboratively to paint their own 'LFK story'.
It was wonderful to see the children delight in learning alongside Bayley to understand more about her practices and culture.
These paintings will be hung in each of our kindergarten rooms as a gift from our current LFK children to future LFK children as part of our Centenary Celebrations.
Thank you Bayley for your incredible storytelling and teaching. Your passion certainly inspired our children - and all of us! These paintings are so special and will be loved for years to come. ✨🧡🩷
How incredible is this super special birthday banner created by our children to mark the occasion of our centenary?! Now proudly on display outside kinder! 🌈🫶
✨ Oh what a night! ✨
A huge THANK YOU to all our amazing LFK children and their families - both past and present - for celebrating with such sparkle and style last Friday night for our Centenary Party!
We hope you enjoyed celebrating the incredible 100 years of LFK as much as we did. There is no party like an LFK party! 🥳🤩
And a super special thank you to all our incredible raffle sponsors on the night! These wonderful local businesses were only too happy to support our little kinder and through their generosity, we raised almost $2,000 to go towards kindergarten improvements. 🙌🏼

Join us as we celebrate the significant impact Lady Forster Kindergarten has had for so many people over the last century.
From our humble beginnings in 1924 in a Salvation Army Hall in Port Melbourne, to where we are today on the beautiful Elwood foreshore.
This is a remarkable milestone in our kindergarten's history and we will have a number of events this year to mark this special 100-year milestone.

COVID-19 update: We're encouraging Port Phillip residents to get tested for COVID-19 – whether or not you're currently showing symptoms. Due to a number of unlinked cases of COVID-19 in our community and the risk of unidentified transmission, getting tested will help keep you, your loved ones and community safe.
You can find testing sites open to the public in or close to Port Phillip:
🚗 Montague Street - South Melbourne – drive-through clinic
🚗 Aughtie Walk - Albert Park – drive-through clinic operating with extended hours
➡️ Melbourne Pathology - Balaclava - Walk Through
➡️ Port Melbourne Respiratory Clinic (Port Melbourne Medical)
➡️ Prahran Respiratory Clinic (Star Health - Prahran Town Hall)
➡️ Alfred Health - The Alfred Hospital - Walk Through
Check opening hours, new sites and wait times at: https://bit.ly/33ABSeD
Please also continue to check the list of exposure sites and get tested immediately if you have visited an exposure site, or are a contact of someone who has: https://bit.ly/2SsqPSm
Take care and stay safe everyone.

Inanay is an Indigenous children's lullaby that is often played in early childhood services to children from 0-5 years of age. Using music in language is a positive way educators can embed Aboriginal and Torres Strait perspectives in their learning spaces. bit.ly/3ChKx5Y
So we’re locked down for at least another week… Got A Box Of Lego Bricks? This Amazing App Scans Them And Suggests New Builds
If your kids have a box of jumbled Lego bricks in their bedroom, get it out – because an amazing new app will give them tons of new ideas of what to build with them.
The Brickit app is the best use of the iPhone’s AR technology I’ve seen yet. It will scan a huge pile of Lego and identify the individual bricks.
Once it’s worked out what bricks you have, it suggests new items you can build with those bricks, turning that random box of Lego bricks into new creations.
Judging by the demo video, the app appears to be capable of identifying thousands of bricks in just a few seconds.
The Brickit app is free in the App Store and has a 4.2 out of 5 rating, so it seems most Lego fans are having a positive experience with the app.
Android coming soon

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate the history and culture of our First Nations People. This year's NAIDOC Week theme is "heal country". At the LFK holiday program this week we have chosen to mark the event by planting some indigenous plants in our garden. Other ways that LFK has committed to "heal country" is to acknowledge country each and every day, to learn about Boonwurrung culture and history at every opportunity, and we continue to care for this country though our sustainability/coastal curriculum programs.
Today we farewell Adric after almost nine years of service at LFK. We thank Adric for his service and wish him all the best in the future.

LFK is proud to have a very large outdoor area, with bikes, sandpit, and plenty of space to
run around, which is something the children love, particularly as many of them live in small houses and apartments in the area.
Being right on the beach, we are able to take the children out as part of our Coastal Curriculum, all while taking pleasure in watching them as they discover first-hand the beauty that Mother Nature has to offer.
