The Market went through a detailed clean on Wednesday 25 August and has since reopened for fresh produce, everyday essentials and takeaway food for those living within 5kms.

Further to the advice from the Department of Health below, Drago’s (Dairy Produce Hall Shop 90-92) has also been listed as an exposure site between 7.34am and 8.35am on Tuesday 24 August. The advice from the Department of Health is that anyone who attended the Market or Drago’s during these times must get tested urgently and isolate until you have a negative result.

The Market is closed today (Wednesday 25 August) and cleaning of the market in line with the Department of Health requirements will be carried out prior to reopening tomorrow (Thursday 26 August). This is on top of our regular, extensive cleaning and hygiene measures to help ensure the health and safety of all who visit the Market.

Thank you to everyone who bought Community Boxes which are being delivered today to the National Homeless Collective to help with their food drive.

Thank you as well to our suppliers The Fontana Bros at Queen Vic Market and their staff who were able to get 22 boxes packed overnight and ready for us to deliver today in time for distribution.

Community Boxes can still be purchased on our site and we take them up to Donna at the NHS who distributes them to those in the North and West so that they can access fresh fruits and vegetables.

The team at Market in a Box are making the most of a winter lockdown with one of our roast Legs of Lamb for dinner tonight!

Can’t get to the market, these guys can help and bring the market to you! They deliver right across Melbourne!

Roast dinner in our house tonight. Such a good option to include as a healthy meal once a week or fortnight. This is a leg of lamb, so it's a lovely lean, premium red meat full of protein. Portion sized cooked per person is about 100 to 150 grams or a serve of meat is about the size of the palm of your hand so about 1/4 of the plate.

The rest of the plate, 3/4 of it will be vegetables roast pumpkin, roast potato, steamed carrots and frozen peas. By building 75% of your meals out with plenty of vegetables you'll reduce the overall calorie content of your meal and you'll be fuller because vegetables have a high fibre and water content. Aim for 2 to 3 cups of vegetables at dinner and you shouldn't be sitting on the couch hungry after dinner or searching for snack.

I've basted the meat and veggies with olive oil with some crushed garlic in it and thrown on some fresh thyme from the garden.

We'll use the leftover meat in sandwiches and for lunches over the next few days so that will save me time.
