Big congratulations to Forrest Prospect Fellow Dr Catriona Stevens who today received the Jean Martin Award from The Australian Sociological Association. This biennial prize was awarded for her PhD dissertation titled 'Unlikely Settlers in Exceptional Times' that she completed in Anthropology and Sociology at the School of Social Sciences.
Great work Cat. Wonderful to see UWA Sociology being recognised on a national stage.

2021 4th Annual Research Forum on Ageing This year's theme explores the issue of abuse of older people and the role of social support in reducing risk.
Registrations are now open for the 2021 4th Annual Research Forum!
The forum will bring together industry professionals, students and teachers from across WA that work with older people at different stages of their service journey. Key talks from these experts as well as the SAGE team will delve into the forum topic.
Forum Topic: Abuse of older people and social support to improve well-being and reduce risk of abuse.

Professor Loretta Baldassar, the director of the UWA SAGE Lab, is a panelist on the UWA Public Policy Institute’s event titled “Fortress Australia: How long can we stay closed?” on Thursday 9 September, 5:30 - 7 pm in the Middar Room, State Theatre Centre of WA.
The panel discusses:
- The steps towards the future of travel and border restrictions.
- What would it take for us to open up again, and what would this new world look like?
- What are the benefits of open borders – economically, socially, nationally – and what are the potential costs and risks?

KRC and UWA Social Care and Ageing Living Lab will be hosting a Joint Seminar - "The Longevity Revolution in the Digital Era: The Korean Experience" presented by Dr Moon Choi, Associate Professor in the Graduate School of Science and Technology Policy at KAIST, Korea.
In this talk, Dr Choi will give an overview of demographic changes and cohort differences in the context of South Korea and discuss how these demographic changes and trajectories will affect society.
